The 2012 lineup for Pickathon is growing, with some new additions that weren't in the original lineup announcement. So who else is playing? The new additions, announced today, are the War on Drugs, Thee Oh Sees, THEESatisfaction, and Cardboard Songsters. (There's also been one cancellation: Handsome Furs will not be playing this year.)

Each of these new bands really expand the stylistic breadth of the festival, and each in a different direction. The War on Drugs make Dylanesque folk-rock filtered through arena-sized effects and a post-punk attitude; Thee Oh Sees make gnarly, stinging garage rock and are currently one of the best live acts in the country; THEESatisfaction just released their breakthrough awE naturalE album on Sub Pop and offer a completely unique version of hiphop soul, informed by classic funk, beat poetry, and the Black Power movement.

Pickathon has been breaking the perception of the typical bluegrass-oriented/hippie music festival for several years now, but with these new additions to an already diverse lineup, I don't think anyone could accuse them of fitting into any single stereotypical category. This year's Pickathon is looking to be the most musically adventurous yet. Full lineup after the jump.

Pickathon takes place at Pendarvis Farm on August 3-5. It is awesome. Tickets on sale here, and I'm certain this year will sell out quicker than previous years.
