Tonight at Powell's, a reading from a book called Greenhorns: 50 Dispatches from the New Farmers' Movement, which collects essays from new farmers writing about their experiences. You can learn more about the Greenhorns here.

This reading caught my eye in part because my roommate just co-founded an organization called Schoolyard Farms, which is working to develop an unused field at Candy Lane Elementary School into a functional urban farm, in partnership with Candy Lane's school garden program. (Recently, the Clackamas Review has a released a great, in-depth article about that project.) Admitting to extreme bias, it's a really cool project, and I know they need volunteers, if anyone's looking to get their hands dirty.
