You've got to love living in a city where we can see our local farmers and food artisans all year round. After a brief break over the past month (even farmers need holidays) the Portland Farmers Market Winter season will begin, keeping nearly the same hours as the central Portland Farmers Market did over the normal season. Visit vendors like Denoble's, Gathering Together Farm, Groundwork Organics, Fressen Bakery, Chop Butchery, Verde Cocina and so many more every week starting this Saturday, January 5 from 10 am to 2 pm at Shemanski park between SW Salmon and SW Main. Pick up gorgeous root vegetables, apples, squash, and other seasonal delights in addition to the wonderful meats, cheeses, preserves, and baked goods that are ever present and always in season. I know—it's cold outside, it's relatively early, and maybe it's far from your home, but it's so worth it. Make a beeline for coffee and a box of tiny cookies from Two Tarts and you'll be ready to collect all the vegetables you promised to eat as your New Years resolution.
