An hot and early growing season this summer means everything has already sprung into bloom—raspberries are growing faster than they can be harvested, the short cherry season is nearly over, and strawberries are pretty much finished for the season already. Just in time to catch almost everything ripe at the same time, the Ecotrust building in NW Portland's Pearl district will host a special market this weekend featuring Oregon's berry bounty. With vendors boasting everything berry-related from fresh fruit to preserves, pies, and even more creative berry preparations like fruity ciders and confections, the Oregon Berry Festival will also offer cooking demonstrations and live music all day throughout the festivities. The festival will run from 11 am to 4:30 pm Friday and Saturday July 12-13, with a (sold-out) Gala Berry Dinner at the Hotel Lucia on Friday night prepared by Vitaly Paley of Paley's Place and Imperial. Admission to the market is free all weekend.
