All about the meat. And the bacon-onion marmalade.
  • All about the meat. And the bacon-onion marmalade.

This announcement is part of our 2013 Burger Week (Aug 5-11 AKA RIGHT NOW), where we (and generous sponsors Nicky USA and Widmer Brewing) team with local restaurants and vendors to bring you $5 gourmet hamburgers!

Dick’s Kitchen, a diner whose nutritionally-aware dishes actually look and taste like the indulgent comfort food you want, has used Burger Week to draw attention to the quality of their Carman Ranch 100% grass-fed beef patty. Owner Richard Satnick—who gave us the Laughing Planet franchise—is a tireless and compelling advocate of this meat, the way it’s raised, and the positive environmental impact the methodical husbandry of the animal has. But talking isn’t delicious—this cast-iron crusted, lightly salted, and nearly unadorned burger is. Served on an undersized Kosher challah bun, it compels you to taste just the meat first, before working your way to a center dressed with a sweet, salty, bacon-onion marmalade that creates deeply satisfying flavor dimensions. The burger comes with a side of non-dairy Caesar on mixed greens, but if you want to pony up for their "Not Fries," both the potato and yam versions are—considering they never see a deep-fat fryer—remarkably satisfying and irresistibly seasoned.

Hit the jump to read Dick's Kitchen founder Richard Satnick describe it in his own words! He is more eloquent about such things.

Portland Mercury Burger Week on Facebook

In His Own Words: Dick's Kitchen's Richard Satnick describes why his burger matters:

Dick’s Kitchen’s “It’s the Meat, Not the Motion” Burger

What better way to celebrate the Mercury’s First Annual Burger Week than to give burger aficionados high and low the chance to taste, without adornment or distraction, the most amazing beef there is: 100% Grass-fed Beef from Carman Ranch.

So we’re serving our burgers Semi-Naked, by cleverly down-sizing the bun., requiring some skillful nibbling of the meat before getting to the kosher challah bread and setting the stage to savor the complex grass flavors our rancher Cory Carman nourishes her stock on. By using our regular 5.5 oz patty, you will experience why there is nothing tastier than 100% Grass-fed beef, and you’ll be amazed that something so good can be so good for you (and so good for the planet).

This being Portland, we’re including a side of our own bacon-onion marmalade to use as a condiment and to offer a lovely contrast in texture and slightly sweet flavors to enhance your experience of this exquisite beef.

A small side mixed-greens side salad is included, lightly dressed with our non-dairy Caesar dressing

All this for $5.00. That’s something to celebrate…

Dick’s Kitchen exclusively features Carman Ranch 100% Grass-fed Beef, a genuine game-changing product that is delicious and healthful in a number of surprising ways. It contains high levels of Omega-3’s, high quality amino acids, minerals and other micro-nutrients. Animals are treated humanely in a pasture-rotation system, and eat only the food they evolved to eat, which produces the healthiest (and tastiest) meat, at the same time as it restores tall-grass prairie and builds healthy soils.
