Mostly due to the wild success the final half season of Breaking Bad is having, AMC has decided to also split up the final season of Mad Men... first half in spring 2014, second half in spring 2015. Here's what the AMC suits have to say about that (from EW):

“In an era where high-end content is savored and analyzed, and catch-up time is used well to drive back to live events, we believe this is the best way to release the now 14 episodes than remain of this iconic series.”

And here's what Wm. Steven Humphrey said in response (via the chair in his office):

"FUUUUUUUCK YOU, AMC. And here's why your shit plan won't work: Breaking Bad is BY FAR a better show than the occasionally brilliant but mostly meandering Mad Men. I loved Breaking Bad and begged for it to come back—so I was patient. I originally loved Mad Men... but due to the increasingly long waits, and the aforementioned meandering plots... I'm kind of giving less than a shit. Will I watch it? Frankly, I don't know—there's a very real chance I won't even be alive in 2015. But don't for a second think this is "the best way to release" a show for THE VIEWERS. This is an entirely selfish and money-grubbing move on your part, and it will serve you right if everybody gets bored with your cock-teasing stupid baby games. So stop acting so goddamn smug and GO SCREW."

The previous statement is exactly why major news organizations never ask me for my opinion.
