In a city where everyone is a crafter of some sort, it's sweet to see a thoughtful little project like this: Ashleyann Burnett got tired of watching a homeless man trying to keep himself warm on MLK with a flimsy sheet, and decided to start designing and making warm blankets with the lifestyle of a homeless person in mind, including a strap that keeps them compact and portable. She sews 'em up and home, and then she and her husband walk the streets distributing them to whoever needs one, calling the project Handmade to the Streets. Now they're trying to expand the operation and become an official 501c3 non profit, apply for a design patent, and re-up their stock of materials.
