It's here! PICA just announced the lineup for this year's Time-Based Art Festival, slated for September 10-20, and it looks GREAT. I'm especially excited that keyon gaskin is presenting his performance its not a thing, which I saw reduce audience members to tears back in February at PICA. It's a performance that takes on race in a way that is deeply overwhelming, uncomfortable, intimate, and—more than anything else—necessary. Again, PICA's pulling comedy into the festival, as they did last year, with Mercury bud Bri Pruett among those on the comedy docket. Also, Zola Jesus! Also, this year the Works moves to the Redd, which is ever-so-slightly more centrally located than last year's Fashion Tech.

And that's just the beginning!

Last year's TBA was basically my introduction to covering the Portland art world, and though I had deer-in-headlights eyes for roughly three days, and maybe lost some of my hearing to Oneohtrix Point Never's blippy-beepy performance, it was TOTALLY worth it. Performance art can be kind of a drag if you do it wrong, and TBA is one of your best bets for seeing it done on a world-class, feels-inducing level.

Full lineup after the jump.
