• Design Week Portland's mini pop-up version of itself is in mid-swing (look for the big one in spring). Tonight features a lecture at Ziba titled "From the Fringe to the Everyday: Realizing the Future Through Design," tomorrow there's an open house at Spooltown and a Paula Scher lecture on, among other things, "Why the Blogosphere Should Shut Up!," A Friday morning edition of Creative Mornings with Adam Arnold on the theme "Shock and Awe," a conversation with costume designers, and more.

THURSDAY, OCT 15

• The second annual Hair is Art show promises jaw-dropping editorial hair from the staff at Hair M|W complemented by formal and bridal gowns from Stephanie D Couture, Boulevard de Magenta, and Sonia Kasparian. Hair M|W, 1015 NW Lovejoy, 7 pm (6 pm VIP cocktail hour), $25-40
