I'll sum up bicycling in & around Portland as a swamp ground/ training network for CAT 7 racers. Those of you who know that the categories in bike racing only go up to CAT 5. For the rest of you vehicle driving folk - CAT 7 applies to the hipsters crap i mean hilpsters / daily commuters who race people without them "knowing it" or have pickup "drag races" with people they don't know riding along in traffic.

The most memorable run in with a CAT 7 was when I was crossing the Burnside bridge.
I felt a sense that someone was about to draft me. I turn around & see a brake-less fix gear wearing a big aerodynamic messenger bag on.

Relax i think to myself "I'm going 10mph who the fuck would draft behind someone going that slow? It's not even windy!" Well guess who such a smart eager little bike racer; Mr.CAT7 gets behind me & stays there until we're half way over the bridge. I wave for him to pass me & tell him that I'm not going to speed up. He sprints to run the red light. Crap, My contact falls out of place as I see this happening. I'm just glad I don't have an ego that needs to be blown up. Once you experience getting hit by a SUV & live to think about it you don't become a CAT 7 racer.
