DEAR SIR(S): Regarding your "Months of the Year" Pull-Out February Calendar [Feb 1]. As a Catholic I find your portrayal of our "Sacred Heart of Jesus" an insult. I'm certain this comment is falling on deaf ears, so it isn't necessary to say more.

BAD HAIR NOT WELCOME?
TO THE EDITOR: Just a response to Mr. Mike Wu's comments [Letters, Music feature, Feb 8]
I've heard POOLSIDE'S Indyglow. Came to a quick conclusion that it was mere mediocre indie rock with a SUPERCHUNK twist. Opinion about getting an audience: do something unique, well-constructed, and with heart. Follow that up with good live performances, stage (and social) presence, and a bucketload of propaganda.
About Jamie S. Rich's hair and words on Steve Malkmus: let it go. I don't expect the writers of the Mercury to do any more than express their opinions (which I tend to agree with more than not). Steve Malkmus needs to be held to the same standards as anyone creating music today: "IS IT GOOD?" or "IS IT BAD?"
Okay, now the hair come on. Social etiquette requires the "artist" to maintain higher levels of maturity when engaging in a public forum. If I have bad hair, then I'm not welcome at your "shows?"

I did not blame anyone but us for NXNW's failure. And I admitted that we had failed to win over people who didn't like what we were doing from the beginning.

Blame goes to "event's detractors" and Willamette Week. Also, your press release states "...from the first year, various local media outlets and music organizations called out for us to cancel the event."
Blame goes to local media outlets and music organizations for daring to offer criticism (horrors!).
And while we're on the subject, saying "fuck you" to local media outlets isn't the best way to prove you're able to take criticism.
