Why would Joe Biden need a breast pump?
Henry de Tessan finally points out that the White House is NO place for a woman.

Yeah, I do think that there's a bit of the gender card being played here. As absolutely ridiculous as Palin is as a VP, the poor woman is going to see so much ridicule and godawful treatment from the media. Honestly, the inner circles of Washington and New York that drive the news coverage are going to have a field day with this overwhelmingly fertile hockey-mom hick from Wasilla. And as much as I don't want her elected, it really isn't fair that she's going to be dragged through the mud during all of this.

So Ms. Palin is a Dan Quail in bloomers?

Why do Republicans make such a hash of looking for young, vital politicians when trying to attrack the middle? Better they should stick to what they do best: Finding incompetent boobs then electing them through fear, loathing and character assassination. Oh for the good old days when US Senators beat each other senseless on the floor of the Senate, opponents called Lincoln an ignorant ape, or claimed that Mr. Jefferson had fathered children by a slave wench names Hemmings! It's too bad we can't get back to that level of sophistication and civility. Those were good days.

I believe Nancy Pelosi is third in line to be President assuming some unfortunate incident, so should we skip past her? I guess according to Henry de Tessan that would make sense.

PS, someone misspelled "Quayle."
5
um, I've been taught that vice president is a pretty important position to hold in this country. not sure anyone could do that while raising a special-needs infant (just four months out of the womb!) and fielding another newborn from her daughter's squishy innards. I mean, really, what if she gets knocked up again while in office? what if McCain dies? her, president?
6
The feminists' silence is deafening in here.
7
This feminist is horribly offended by the McCain campaign's choice of running mate.

I'm all of a sudden too stupid to recognize that Palin is an ANTI-feminist and I'm supposed to smile and vote for McCain because he picked a girl?!

Give me a break and give me some credit!
8
@missconduct: Unfortunately, they're mostly too far out of touch with reality to give the "common folk" any credit.

it really isn't fair that she's going to be dragged through the mud during all of this.

Um, it's national politics. It might not be fair, but if she didn't want to get dragged through the mud, she never should have signed up in the first place.
10
I'm actually pointing out the fact that she is literally being called out (in this case) as unfit because she is a woman (and mother) to hold high office.
Not because anyone is supposed to 'vote for McCain because he picked a girl'
11
So what's the daughter's birth date? Was it statutory rape? Who's figuring this stuff out? Is it tomorrow's lede? Can we schedule an arrest date for the young man in late October? Frog-marching photo op?

The way Cheney's played the VP, for Palin it's child abuse. But if she does a Spiro Agnew, sticking to Maryland golf courses and royal funerals, no problem.

D, I'm with you on this one. (Or at least, I'll bite.) There are no takebacks on my support for a woman's right to make her own decisions about the organization of her career and family life. Daddy Todd can't take care of the baby? Why are we still privileging mothers over fathers as primary caretakers?

That said, I'm still sure as shit not voting for her because, well, what missconduct said.
13
Thank you Alison.

pdx97217 - age of consent in AK is 16.

I just find it ironic that the so-called "family values" party who revere housewifery want to steal a mom away from her special needs child for four or eight years during which, what?, her child will be warehoused in a Federal child care center for fourteen hours a day? (I know we think of the VP position as largely ceremonial, but I bet it is a lot more of a job, involving a lot of traveling, than most of us would want to take. The choice of Palin is as cynical as it is smart. It's smart because women voters have a history of voting more with their hearts than their minds.
15
Sorry. Quayle. He's the one who misspelled potatoe. Right?
16
Quayle. Quayle. Oh, yes, I remember. A test run before we found George.

Please wait...
