Ooooh, I smell it—and it smells like the dank hangar at Oaks Park and sweaty derby socks—it's another action-packed roller derby weekend. For starters, tonight it's the Rose City Rollers' all-star farm team, the Axles of Annihilation, vs. the Shakers of Utah's Salt City Derby Girls. I think those Utah gals might want to prepare for a little pepper. Goes down tonight at the Hangar at Oaks Park (8 pm, $14-20). Get your tickets here.

Tomorrow night is the night for me, as I haul the parents along (hmm, strange... now that I think about it, my mom called Ellen Page of Whip It "a little fucker" last night when I told her we're going to the bout). We'll be there for the Flashy McWinnersons of the High Rollers as they take on the spitfires of the Break Neck Betties, in game 5 of the season. This should be a really good bout—the High Rollers are living up to their name and riding high on a stellar winning streak and the tough-as-nails Betties are always a force to be reckoned with, but they might be feeling a little tender after veteran derby gals Marollin' Monroe and Barbahella retired last month. Yes siree, it's going to be a good 'un! Looks like rock star tickets are sold out, but sitting with the rowdy plebes is more fun anyway. (Saturday, 6 pm, $14, tickets here.) And if you're feeling the urge to pig out on derby, there's another packed weekend right on the heels of this one. I'll do another roundup next week for the big Portland vs. Texas bout on Friday, May 20.

More awesomeness: Peep this high-stakes trailer for upcoming roller derby film Derby Baby, with a cameo by the Mercury's own Nami "Draggin Lady" Bigos, who'll be announcing the bouts tonight and tomorrow night (she's the blondie with the quote about women and drama).
