Closing This Week

Like I Say
Like I Say is a dreary, ambient, morbidly reflective affair set in the Hotel Splendide, where the inhabitants find respite from the outside world that has treated them shabbily. Here, the struggling writer Isaiah Sandoval can spin his kooky tales of Coconut Joe, a hapless coconut buyer whose trip to peruse a particularly high-quality crop launches him into a crazy pulp adventure on the high seas. The Coconut Joe chorus of Nathan Gale, Amy Newman, Darius Pierce, and Jesse Young have a ball racing through the endless slew of wacky characters Joe meets on his journey. Their infectious energy and good cheer sharply contrasts with the "real world" of the play, highlighting the ponderous tedium of the hotel's main action. JWS Theater! Theatre!, 3430 SE Belmont, 306-0870, Thurs-Sat 8 pm, ends May 13, $15, Thurs pay-what-you-can

Current Runs

Assassins
Sondheim's musical addresses the biographies of nine presidential assassins throughout history. It's one of the more interesting, controversial shows around. Artists Repertory Theatre, 1516 SW Alder, 241-1278, Tues-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 & 7 pm, $15-40

Dance

22ºHalo
Monstersquad dancer Daniel Addy formed a new company, Aviator, for this one, and hit the relative big-time. He's got an all-star lineup of choreographers (Mike Barber, Tracy Broyles, Margretta Hansen, Dawn Joella Jackson, and Stephanie Lanckton) all making site-specific dance pieces within a "suspended, aerial environment" in the lush confines of the Weiden + Kennedy Atrium. Don't miss this one if you're at all interested in local dance. Weiden + Kennedy Atrium, 224 NW 13th, (971) 506-7054, 8:30 pm May 12-14, $12-15
