SO THE AUTHOR IS CLAIMING THAT THE FRENCH ARE UNAWARE OF THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN CONIFEROUS TREES AND DECIDUOUS TREES? PROTIP: THE FRENCH WORDS FOR EVERGREEN WOULD EITHER BE 'FEUILLES PERSISTANTE' OR 'CONIFERE'.
I live in Antwerp and I can confirm that European urbanites know shit about trees. In fact, they'll rip them out any time they do the smallest street repairs.
I'm super excited to hear there's some Portland influence making it over the ocean. Bikes are big here, but it would be nice to see some recycling and a few more second hand stores. Europeans are humanists, not environmentalists...
@7: "Keep Portland Weird" is just about the most unique, most identity-building motto a city could have. It succinctly encompasses the sheer authenticity and pioneer spirit of our community.
@Oregometry: You know it all started with "Keep Austin Weird" right? There's nothing unique about it. Plus, it's obnoxious. I consider myself a weirdo, and I hate it when normals fly the KPW flag so they can feel unique, when they really aren't. KPW is nothing but a bumper sticker for suburbanites who want to seem cool.
Also, "feuilles persistante" is two words.
