So let's get this timeline established.

Dude says he's laughing and coughing loudly.
Librarian tells him to keep it down.
Dude keeps being loud.Librarian asks the guy to leave.
Dude is abusive to Librarian.
Dude gets a one week exlucision from going to the Library.
Dude is a fucking dick and rants about how he looks clean cut and shouldn't be held to the same standards as every other patron because he's special.

Non-story.

Yeah, the guy's a dick and he got what he deserved, but I'd still like to know why we need armed sheriff's deputies in our public libraries... I mean, who the hell pulls a gun on a guy making a bad Nazi reference?

Dear Kyle,

I too misread the Dickish Dude's rant and thought that he said that a gun was drawn. Luckily he actually said, "unbuckled his gun".

I'm personally more concerned that the officer involved didn't give the Dude his exclusion notice. That is not following due process.

And as to the neccesity of having a sheriff's deputy in the Libary... The downtown libary has a tendency to get some people in it who might need to be forcefully asked to leave due to drug use in the restrooms. I'd rather have a sheriff doing that than a Librarian. But that's just me.

Sheriff's deputies may make some sense downtown, but out at Hollywood it's just creepy.

you're allowed to laugh at the library, but you're supposed to use your indoor laugh. every unwashed homeless dude i've ever seen at the library mastered this concept when his parents taught it to him as a child. if the police had to enforce such basic common courtesy, one wonders what other niceties ma and pa lucero skipped in raising their boy.

None of the Multnomah County employees who work in the libraries carry guns. They are Facility Security Officers, not Sheriff's Deputies. They cannot carry guns while on duty.

Though it make for a more interesting tall tale, no one unholstered any guns in the library.
