I'm surprised about your high opinion of Beck, Matt, unless you are being arch and British, and your praise of him is really a brilliant slam on the whole WW. At the risk of piling on (might as well now), Beck was definitely not the best thing WW had going for it. He never gave a shit about anything important (by which I mean unrelated to pop culture), until his boyfriend got the itch to marry and he discovered politics. Until then it was all gossip, musical theater, trite cliches and after-the-fact generalizations about gay culture. His greatest competence (I started to say "strength") was putting together those bullshit advertorial shopping guides that you newsweeklies pump out every few weeks.

I'm with ya there Geraghty. Beck's column should have engaged me as a "queer" person. Instead, I found it to be pretty much what you would expect from your average, unimaginative "gay lifestyle" indoctrinated queen. I'll bet anything if he had a podcast it would be full of that mindless Untz untz untz dance music, Kylie Minouge and Celine Dion or somesuch airhead fluff.

That dog is awesome. But I still they think should get a pot bellied pig if they really want a hypoallergenic rescue. Save a glamour pet!

I just heard about the breed in reference to the hunt for an Obama dog so I googled. First thing I thought of when I saw your picture is that this breed looks Egyptian. The Egyptians had dogs that looked like this. Like a wild dog from africa that was domesticated and transplanted thousands of years ago. There are historic links.
