This wasn't the time and place to discuss the issue, but that doesn't matter to poor little Adam Berg-- he's got something to say! Call the waambulance.
2
This was exactly my concern all along. Not his past actions or words, but his inability to lead with these distractions dogging him along the way.

I seriously doubt this is going to die down very much. People are simply going to question every action he makes with scrutiny whereas the old Sam we didn't know about was trusted and productive.
3
So the public which pays him will never get to ask him questions about his leadership, because it doesn't have to do with "city business"?

What a jellyfish.
4
Muckraking. Cute. Now why don't you and your friends go grasp at straws some place else.
5
The people trying to monkeywrench city procedures aren't concerned citizens, they're just Sam's political opponents trying to capitalize on the moment. All they can do is keep shouting louder and force themselves into inappropriate forums....what a bore.
6
The unfortunate reality is that everyone on his senior staff or who is an appointment is going to be viewed skeptically by a lot of people, even though the vast majority are deserving of their positions.
7
Inappropriate forums.
That's rich.

"Muckraking. Cute. Now why don't you and your friends go grasp at straws some place else."
-I read this as "I don't know what to say, go away."

"The people trying to monkeywrench city procedures aren't concerned citizens, they're just Sam's political opponents trying to capitalize on the moment. All they can do is keep shouting louder and force themselves into inappropriate forums....what a bore."

Uh, I voted for Sam, I'm not planning on running against him, and I want him out. No I'm not signing a petition until an official one is made, and no I'm not joining facebook or random Samprotest site(s). There are more than two types of supporters of an issue, you realize.

Love the "I'm posting that I'm bored." Has that ever impressed anyone online? Do you think that garners respect in your opinion because you are somehow above the minions of those of us that find an interest in the topic? Is the nature of a catch-22 lost on you in typing out that you are bored while typing?
9
Oh please. When would you propose we have an opportunity to have public comment and questions about your fitness, Sam? This is not a dictatorship and you are not Joseph Stalin. If the people have questions about your fitness to lead, you have a goddamned obligation to answer us. Resign now, save yourself the pain when we remove you from office in July.

I'm starting to get a headache from this story.
The bottom line in all this is what happens if Adams stays,
will it lead to the end of Portland as we know it?

NO....

If Adams goes will that mean Portland will now be a shining city by the river?

NO...

In other words, whether Adams stays or goes really doesn't make one goddamn difference to what happens in Portland.

SO FORGET IT AND LET THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUE.

And wait for the next election.
11
People questioning the Mayor! Cats sleeping with dogs! Mayhem! Bedlam!
12
The vast majority of these people that do stuff like Berg will be Sam's political opponents that are trying to capitalize on his mistake.

My prediction is that they're going to try to muck things up as much as possible and go that route.

The real question will be to see if this turns everyone against them. The commissioners will become frustrated, the public will become frustrated and these people will probably turn into what most everyone in America sees the Republicans in Congress...as obstructionist jerks who are getting in the way of us trying to fix things.
13
"The commissioners will become frustrated, the public will become frustrated ..."

This above statement, Sam supporters, is what we've been meaning by 'ability to lead.'
Watch closely now.
14
Sam is clinging so tightly to the power that he believes he won fairly in an election that he acknowledges he lied to win. What he fails to realize is that his hands are wrapped around the throat of our Democracy.

Look Portland, we just got done with one leader stealing elections, subverting the law and not answering media questions. Apparently Sam learned a lot over the past 8 years.

I for one will not let this happen for another 4 years. The only way to take back what is ours is to keep asking him "Who is he going to regain our trust".

I applaud those that stood up to the emperor and told him he was not wearing any clothes.
15
Don't question The Leader.
16
"The only way to take back what is ours is to keep asking him "Who is he going to regain our trust". "

My concern is that everyone will look at you strangely when you ask that question.
17
Sorry,

How is he going to regain our trust?

When he will not answer our questions about trust.

Now back to the real job. Which I am obviously not a professional proofreader.
18
He already did answer questions that were related to his job, but you closet homophobes keep asking more. Let him the job we elected him to do... otherwise YOU'RE wasting his time and my tax dollars.
19
Paul,

This is not an issue about sexual orientation.

This is an issue about Sam Adams lying and conspiring to stealing an election. Thus, he was not fairly elected.

If you think us trying to hold our elected officials accountable is expensive... try corruption, as it will cost you much more.

Again, sex has nothing to do with this.

Lack of honesty, poor judgment and the subversion of our Democracy are the core is why we feel Sam Adams should not be the Mayor of Portland.

20
Rondine Ghiselline has kept a week-long vigil outside of Portland City Council and has been interviewed by every reporter in town.Go away Rondine, you sound like you're selling peanuts at a baseball game!
21
A Good Citizen,

You're wrong. Sex has everything to do with this. Did you call for President Clinton's resignation when he told a grand jury he did "not have sexual relations with that woman."

He got a BJ in the friggen Oval Office and stuck a cigar in her vagina and then licked the cigar and said, "tastes good."

The entire country shut down for months while the Republicans held a circus court in Congress. This is a joke compared to that and it's just the blogosphere and people like you that is making this continue.

And no...he didn't steal an election. Stealing is when you take something that isn't yours...not lying. He probably could have been caught lying about this before the election and still beat Sho Dozono.

22
Garrett - Did you have all the true information when votes were cast to make your decision?
23
Garrett,

Clinton was before my time. I prefer to deal with issues that are in the present and directly affect our city.

Elections belong to all of us. Candidates running for public office have the obligation not to lie to the electorate. For when they do they are taking the power of information away from the voters... thus stealing an election.

Sam went one step further and removed the ability for others to campaign for Mayor with his deception. Thus taking away from voters additional view points to consider. Thus, stealing the election.
24
It's interesting that there are people old enough to vote in the '08 election who were only 8+ years old during the Clinton Impeachment.
25
I recall way back last Tuesday, the Mayor assured us that he would answer all questions, release all information, and allow a full airing of all the facts. This was part of his contrition for humiliating the city with his behavior.

That was right before he went into hiding for four days, stopped returning reporters' phone calls, shoved his way past the press on the way in and out of city hall, and refused to allow the public to comment during the "public comment" section of the Council agenda.

Where's the contrition you promised, Mr. Mayor? Or have you read the commentary of people like Dan Savage and decided that you didn't do anything wrong after all?
26
So Chutney...what is the right time. If anyone needs a waaabulance it would be our mayor. He does something that clearly he would have fired ANYONE on his staff for then disappears for a week while he ponders his next move? I guess the city takes 2nd place to his personal life. I applaud Mr. Berg, more people should be asking questions since Sam isn't answering them.
27
Interrupting a meeting about something totally unrelated to push your stupid agenda. Wait for your precious recall attempt, douches. Until then, let's get some work done.
28
Will - You obviously have never worked for public relations. Try "getting some work done" when you rely on delicate diplomacy throughout the city and relationships built on trust and mutual benefits, but no one believes you.

Douche? Nice. Well, we "douches" will be replacing your mayor very soon.
29
"Not the time or place"?
I don't buy that one bit...
He is not making himself available for any questions the public has about him and his actions.
Adams played hard-ball to get elected into this position.
He has all that and more coming his way now.
He earned it.
30
Didn't Sam say he would consider resigning if this scandal interfered with his ability to get city business done?
Ummm, CASE CLOSED.
(Or OPEN, depending on if you are the city DA...)

Please wait...
