Just pointing out, once more, that Breedlove has a dog named Lolita. I think he's going to be okay.
2
Isn't Breedlove posing in nudie books now? Oh, what a victim!

I feel for Rondine and her struggle to come to terms with what happened to her in 1992. I can't help feeling, however, that she's forcing her own set of issues on what was, by all accounts, a consensual relationship between Adams and Breedlove. There was no assault here and that's never been in question.

The assertion that city council's "allow[ing] this to happen" makes a mockery of what many abuse survivors live through is false. Why? Because there was no abuse. This is akin to protesting, say, anyone having a relationship with a 37-year old man because a 37-year old man once assaulted you.

Ms. Ghiselline, with all due respect, sexual relationships between people with vast age differences are not exclusively abusive. Breedlove has come forward on numerous occasions to tell his side of the story: he was not hurt in any way by his relationship with Adams, or in any of the other relationships he's had with men much older than he is. If you've been keeping up at all, you'll know that this isn't the only much older man he's had a relationship with.
4
Uh, lady, your case bears little to no resemblance to the one at hand here. Move along, now, before your crazy ass makes me lean towards supporting Sam again.
5
"Rondine Ghiselline, a West Linn woman"

West Linn people don't get to vote in Portland. Go complain about your mayor Rondine and let us care about ours. This lady from West Linn is getting in the way of Portland city business and has been getting in the way from a month.

"West Linn people don't get to vote in Portland."

move along..............
7
Sam Adams raped Beau Breedlove? WTF? Send this nutter back to West Linn.
8
Sam's number one fan or Hollie (not sure what you are going by these days)-

With all due respect we are talking about a 17 year old and don't worry I have been keeping up just fine. I do not have a problem with May/December relationships, if you will, but rather someone using the cities resources to seduce and prey on an underage teen. Plain and simple.

The condescending nature of your post is disturbing I may have survived an assault, I am not retarded. I am not sure how you can be "confident there was no abuse." I must have different info then you. You see I understand that the Mayor was making out with Breedlove (who was again 17 at the time) in the City Hall bathroom. I also understand that this was AFTER Mr. Breedlove informed Adams that he was 17. Keep in mind that without Mr. Breedlove essentially "blowing the whistle" on Mayor Adams we would have nothing to talk about here. Yes, he does say that the Mayor is "wonderful" it is confusing but I think I addressed this point in my testimony. Now you might want to actually read it.

Mercury-

Thanks for the friggen terrible pic, did you let Sam Adams select it!? I concede to ElGordo, yeah it makes me look crazy.
9
Rondine,

I am confident there was no abuse because Beau Breedlove (who is the young man you assert was the victim here) has made it clear in every occasion offered to him that his relationship with Adams was consensual. If you can provide evidence to the contrary, then perhaps this is similar to your own case. I maintain, however, that there exists no such evidence.

Your speculation is what's fueling your protests. And it's speculation that, based on everything that's been said by both Adams and Breedlove, is false. My point is not to condescend to you, but to offer that your situation does not map to this one.
10
why the fuck isn't "hollie" word-filtered to "number one fan" yet?
11
Rondine, you say, "The condescending nature of your post is disturbing"

As near as I can tell, the entire post is a direct quote from you. I think that you're looking for things to be affronted about. Yeah, commenters online will be harsh and mean; but that's just the nature of the medium. Just be glad that Blogtown is relatively civil.
12
Why the fuck isn't NOT A CAT word-filtered to Captain Snuggly-pants?
13
For fucking reals...
14
That's odd. I watched a video interview with Breedlove in which he says what Adams did was inappropriate.
15
Hollie- This is where you and I differ. You see at 17 years old you cannot legally consent. Sam is no "mentor" he is a predator. If this offends you I do not apologize. That is what we call adults who go after teens especially when they are in positions of power and utilize the cities resources to do it.

I agree Mr.Breedloves experience and mine our not mirrors of each other. I did not get up at City Council and in anyway say that our situations were EXACTLY alike. My point was that sex abuse does happen in the gay community and do we care less about it because this kid was gay and male? Do we care less about it because the perp is a popular Mayor? I hope not but these are my observations thus far.

I was deeply offended by the rally that you are so proud of. I thought that was a really sad day for all victims of sex abuse. I hope no one you care about is ever touched by it; the lasting effects are quite devastating. Jumping up down carrying signs, plastered in body paint and signing bad Tammy Wynette remakes is nothing to be proud when the issue is so serious.

"consensual/legal" does not preclude "innapropriate", alan. don't be stupid...
17
"using the cities resources to seduce and prey on an underage teen"? Really? The only 'city resource' I can even remotely link to the story is the city hall bathroom. So by that logic, anyone who makes out in a car is 'using federal / state resources' because they're on a road at the time.

There's valid reasons out there to be annoyed (at least) with what happened. When you (and various other people) start making up completely invalid reasons instead, you shoot yourself in the foot, because the rest of us lose any sympathy we might have had for your cause.
18
Rondine-
Please take your worthless hillbilly self back to the woods of West Linn and leave Portland's city business to Portland. I realize West Linn is boring and you probably have nothing better to do than hang out in Portland but you're not wanted and you definitely shouldn't be allowed to interrupt our city business in our city hall.

@Alan Cordle. You are a douchebag who uses a multiple homicide against teenagers in front of a club as a punchline. You have no class sir. Also, your blog totally sucks dude.
19
Awesome, personal attacks with little/no bearing on the subject. Way you go, Garrett.
20
My Dear Garrett -- there was no punchline. I was entirely serious when I posted that. Chainsaw guy was inappropriate -- just like your precious Sam. And BTW, it would behoove you not to plagiarize from a soccer scam forum. Try to think of something original to say. I almost think you can. And your attitude towards Rondine exposes you only as a misogynist and a hick yourself.

Did notacat really tell me not to be stupid because . . . heh.
21
See I would really love to get riled over your "West Linn Hillbilly" comment, Garrett, but I am to busy hating on the Mercury for the unfortunate pic. FYI Matt Davis photo shopped that back fat in, for real.

"That's odd. I watched a video interview with Breedlove in which he says what Adams did was inappropriate."

If you don't understand that Sam's actions being "appropriate" or not has nothing to do with a discussion of whether he's a sexual predator, than you're a moron. I'm not sure what's so "heh" about that.
23
also: typos. I'm awesome.
24
@AlanCordle

Clearly you have no idea what the word misogynist means. I don't hate women. I just think Rondine is a hick from West Linn that doesn't have any right to get involved in the politics of a city she doesn't live in. See how that works?

I think you're a narcisistic typical Portland, "progressive," who likes to think they're more informed than anyone else, but mostly just thinks whatever their favorite, "progressive," blog tells them to think. Of course I'm sure with your superior intellect you'll tell me differently. Does that make me a misandrist or just another stupid jock?
25
Yes.

Possible reason there was only one anti-Adams protester in council yesterday:

Subject: March 4th Communications to City Council

Rondine,

We have a received an absence notice for Mayor Adams for March 4th, the day you were coming to speak to Council. Currently the rest of the City Council is expected to attend the meeting on the 4th.

I do have space on March 11th if that day will work for you. Please let me know as soon as possible.

Sorry for the inconvenience..

Regards,
Karla

Rondine is a very brave person.
Graham seems to forget that in Oregon a seventeen year old cannot have sexual contact with someone more than three years older or younger than themselves. A kiss can be classified as sexual contact; especially if it is found to lead to other encounters.
Yes, city resources were used to groom Breedlove. City rules, a policy Mayor Adams has used himself to fire city employees like Foxworth, were breached when he kissed Breedlove in city hall.
Garrett, you sound like a Hill-billy yourself when you tell people to shut up and go back to where they came from, does the name Bull Conner mean anything to you? Ya, the freedom riders should have stayed home and not register all of them southern blacks, Just like Bull told them to.
I will take my comments off line.

'consensual/legal' - objective definitions

'inappropriate' - completely subjective

'sexual contact' - see above

'predator' - subjective + name calling

rondine, people use their own experience as a lens through wich they view the world, especially extreme experience. MADD moms are examples. Some 12 steppers are exampels. Ex smokers. Born again Xtians. I see James Chasses death through lens of lifelong chronic depression / family history / stigma of mental illness / etc. its a human trait. No shame in it. Do you think youre objectivity is at all skewed by your experience? Think for exampel that if Sam Adams ever went to trial you would make it on to the jury? any thoughts on this?
29
Hi Billy,

Yes, everyone has life experiences that will make them less objective, its simple human nature. What I think makes me less objective (and a defense attorneys worst nightmare) is not the fact that I was raped but rather the fact that I am the mother to young boys. Additionally having a background in Social work as well as having been a foster parent to teens (now both adults) makes me feel very compassionate, if you will, of Mr. Breedlove. There is so much I don't like about this:

1. Sam pretended he was this kids "mentor" and he was really sleeping with him. I think this sets a dangerous precedent.

2. Our community has been very harsh of Mr. Breedlove, calling him all sorts of names and being very threatening in posts. I don't believe this would have been condoned if we were talking about a 17 year old girl. Itā€™s my opinion that this community seems to care less about him because he is gay and male, I find that reprehensiable.

3. This is not a simple mistake. It took planning and predatory behavior for Mayor Adams to use this kid. When you are a public official you have to conduct yourself in a manner that people will never be able to assume you used your position of power to get sex. Yes, I understand that he wasn't Mayor Adams intern but he was an intern nonetheless and Adams knew this kid would be impressed with his government job. I know from parenting teens it does not take a lot to impress them.

Thank you for your respectful questions, I hope I answered them. I am in no way an expert on any of this, these are simply my observations and opinions.

Take care,

Rondine

This post would really be a lot better if it had a crying Indian on the bottom, seeing as that's about as relevant as sexual abuse is.

Please wait...
