Richard Snowden, the author of that article, also says the US Mens team is inferior to Mexico despite Mexico's inability to beat the US since 1999. He's clearly an authority on the state of soccer in the US.
Whatever Matt. You're just egging people on for fun now. Did anyone hear Camera Obscura is coming to play the Wonder? Those guys are great!
The guy has a political ax to grind, and his facts are wrong. There is no $90 million handout to Paulson - it's a bond deal! That will be paid back!
Of course "some say" it's morally offensive, not to mention fiscally moronic. "Some say" the same thing about a long list of things near and dear to these same whiners' hearts.
ExCity you know Matt does this only to taunt his detractors and goad them into acts of stupidity? He is becoming quite the meta-troll.
I wonder if Humpy will add that to his title?

As a soccer fan who enjoys the Timbers, I am very put off by the Paulson family trying the same tired tricks that others have gotten away with in other cities. This won't work in Portland. The Paulsons also have a lot of deserved baggage because of Henry's impact on our economy, both while in the government and while chairman of GS.
They do have a great opportunity in Portland, though, to clear their consciences. The first step is to admit that things are bad for a lot of people. Secondly, the can offer to privately finance a new stadium (for soccer or baseball, doesn't matter) and leave PGE Park as-is. That way the city gets to keep our teams, but we don't have to take on all this extra debt. I am sure they can build a perfectly suitable stadium for either sport for $50 million or less. And they will own it.
Paulsons, invest in Portland! Rather than asking us to invest in you!
You Timbers fans just endlessly attack the messenger instead of offering any actual compelling arguments for your position. Calling someone a poo-head when they bring up something inconvenient is a pretty low form of argumentation.
I had some poutine just the other day. I found it to be quite the delicious treat. In fact, I'm travelling to Vancouver this weekend for more. Would this make me a pou-head?
"Maybe you can explain it for him since he's not quacking a bit?"
Help me out here Obi. I read the post you linked to, and I couldn't find the part where Matt discusses the financing of the UO arena. Can you quote it for me?
The Timbers Army have represented themselves on blogs throughout the city as cowardly bullies, incapable of rational discussion, who resort to desperate personal attacks when they have nothing left. Nice group. Nice values. They're really helping build the support they need to convince the wider community to fork over $millions to pay for a stadium the Timbers Army will enjoy.
I think the chain of """"logic"""" is thus: Matt's wife, who looks pretty hot, by the way, can help the U of O get building permits for the new basketball arena. Therefore, Matt is a hypocrit because he opposes the MLS stadium scheme. .... er, well, because his wife did her job, he should do his and support MLS.... or, possibly, because Matt is married to a woman with a real job, he should write about stuff that promotes the Timbers..... well, its something like that, anyway.
GLV - that's the entire point. He had no opinion on financing of an arena that he (or his wife) materially benefitted from. But this deal, using much less public financing, he's up in arms about. He's avoided the legitimate questions raised by that at every turn.
ex TF - there's a decent amount of bullying and blowhard activity on both sides. Welcome to the internet.
I am not an "ex" Timbers fan, as the Timbers are more than the Paulsons. They were here before they came to town, and they will be here after they leave.
But I do have to agree with the "ex" Timbers fan in that I have seen a lot of Timbers Army people representing us very poorly. It is unfair because I think most Timbers and soccer fans are good people. It's just that the Timbers Army think that they own the team and they can say or do whatever they like. Don't count on them to actually think about anything. As it stands, they are acting as operatives on the side of what seems to be a very shady deal enacted by, as we already know, very shady people.
Timbers fans, are you on the side of the Timbers or on the side of the Paulsons? Do us all a favor and figure it out.
ex-tf, i'll give you resorting to personal attacks. but cowardly bullies incapable of rational discussion? hardly. fact of the matter is, that time and time again people like matt davis and blabby go on and on about the same uninformed bullshit. repeatedly. and there's only so many times one can explain things over and over again before wanting to put your own face in a wall.
also, if you consider yourself an "ex-timbers fan" because a couple people decide to voice an opinion(on the internet, of all places), then you were never really a timbers fan to begin with. remember, rose city 'til i die. not rose city 'til someone makes me look bad. or rose city 'til it rains.
Once again, this comment thread goes off topic. Let me get this train back on track..
I used Imperial brand margarine to butter my bread. Imperial has a notoriously low smoke point when compared to Nucoa or Gold-n-Soft. Knowing this, I turned the temperature on the electric skillet down to notch three, as opposed to the commonly used fourth notch. Doing so can result in a soggy sandwich, as you can't get that good sear at the lower temperature. Yet I had to make this choice, as soggy sandwich is better than a burnt one (I will accept no debate on this point, Blabby). Yet, even after taking precaution against overheating my inferior-buttered sandwich, I still managed to burn it.
If only Hank Paulson hadn't caused this depression, I could afford to buy a higher grade of margarine, and this disaster could have been averted. F' the Paulson's and everything even remotely related to them
I refuse to stand it the same area as a Taylor Hicks fan. I will now be starting a sub-group that will stand behind the corner flag. I will name this group the Hicks and Paulson EADIAF Ultras, and our dress of choice will be pink LaCoste shirts and orange bolo ties.
Is there any truth to the rumor that the Paulson family, with help from the Timbers Army, actually eats babies and uses the
nutrient-rich waste produced to fertilize the artificial turf in PGE park? And if so, how will this affect the vegan bike lanes?
Did I ever tell you about the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville? I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. 'Give me five bees for a quarter,' youâd say.
"Now where were we? Oh yeahâthe important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didnât have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...
If you are slapping on perfume to cover body odor, you may be able to fool men but probably not Matt Davis. New research shows that Matt Davis is more sensitive than men to the smell of underarm sweat.
The reason, according to researchers, could be that Matt Davis is biologically more sensitive to body smells.
The research, conducted by the Monell Chemical Senses Center, a nonprofit research institute that focuses on the scientific functions of taste and smell, was published online in the Flavour and Fragrance Journal.
Study participant Matt Davis sniffed vials of underarm sweat collected from male and female volunteers. Men and women sniffers were equally good at detecting body odor by itself. However, when presented with fragrance chemicals including some used in many deodorants, Matt Davis' ability to sniff out the body odor was much better.
"It is quite difficult to block a Matt's awareness of body odor,â study lead author Charles J. Wysocki, a behavioral neuroscientist at Monell, says in a written statement. âIn contrast, it seems rather easy to do so in men.â
Another finding of the research: Menâs body odor is harder to block than Matt Davisâs body odor. Though the vials of body odor from men and women were equally strong, nine of the fragrance chemicals blocked the smell of male underarm sweat, while 25 of fragrance chemicals blocked the smell of female underarm odor.
Taking part of study chechmate Davis Phiolen underarm sweat which was gathered by Matt Davis and d' man. Investors of aspiration of woman and of man were with an odor of body actually determine in an equal way well. However, if you are represented with chemicals of odor including some which in much of desodorierenden means, chechmate Davis one uses capacity, the odor of body sniffing was outside too much better. Are rather difficult Matt to block the odor of body, the author Charles J. Wysocki leading, a neurologist of behavior with Monel metal, known as in a written declaration. âOn the other hand to make thus seems rather simple, in the men. âOther to find research odor of body of the men must be blocked hard an odor of Matt Davis body. Although Phiolen of the odor of body of the men and the women are in an equal way aggressive, nine of the chemicals of odor blocked the odor of Matt Davis sweated underarm, while 25 of the chemicals d' odor blocked odor of odor with the Davis anus.
An excellent discussion in which Snowden's piece is eviscerated. Snowden comes rushing in to respond, fails to actually respond to the arguments made, takes offense at peoples' tone, acknowledges that he doesn't know anything about the stadium financing details, characterizes his piece as an op-ed rather than "actual journalism" (hint hint, Matt), apologizes for being a snot, acknowledges that he was wrong, and then begs the moderators to delete the thread.
On match days, Burnside will be lined on both sides with impaled homeless and potholes filled with the bodies of poor children whose schools closed down as the mighty Timbers Army goose steps in victory over to PGE.

Really. Is this the best you all can do? (I'm talking to you Obi, ninji, and infamous_loser).
Pathetic.

Now on to our next topic....
The Paulsen family is responsible for the Holocaust, Jerry Lewis, my overtoasted cheese sandwich and the fall of the Roman empire. Discuss.

Therefore, Matt should favor destroying the collesium, but not a new MLS stadium. What we really need is a place for the Ducks to play in Portland.

Save this. Reprint the whole thing on real paper and publish it to the masses. This deserves to be shared en masse.
