God, dump Wurster and get a real political consultant in there if you really want something to happen.
And answer the most important question of recalling Sam Adams. Then what? Who would be our new mayor. Do they have anyone that is better qualified willing to step up?
"So that allows people who fear political retaliation from Adams to donate to the recall without having their name show up."
Bwaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaa
Really Jasun?
Is the gay mafia gonna show up and crack thome thkulls???
@ Graham
Saltzman looks to be the only non-bullshitter of the bunch. I doubt he wants to be mayor tho.
Well it all makes sense to me now, give me some money, oh and volunteer, sounds like maybe the major expense of the recall campaign might just be paying the leader of the recall campaign...Sketchy
The PAC will not pay for political consulting. We will pay for third party political service like printing, voter list, C&E reporting and polling. As aways if anyone ever has any questions or concerns about the campaign please feel free to call me directly at 503-799-7919.
To be clear. Jasun Wurster is not getting paid to volunteer for this campaign.
Paul, linking to the comments section of the Merc as an attempt to answer a simple question is akin to shitting on your grandmothers car in order to try and give it a wax job.
The best that mayor... maybe. could be gleaned from that travesty of train-wreck is that someone might step up to replace Adams, but no one knows who... And that maybe Randy would be the interum
I want some details from the butt-hurt people at RSA to lay out what exactly their hopeful endgame is for this entire stupid process.
Reading this makes me feel sorry for Jasun in a way. He has no clue what he is in for or is doing. As someone who has run three (successful) statewide ballot measure campaigns I am very familiar with what it takes in terms of time, money and expertise to gather 50,000 signatures much less than 130,000 we had to get for a statewide measure.
He is going to learn very quickly how hard it is to get 32,000 valid signatures. This post indicates to me that he is going to get a big ol wake up call very soon. And even if he does get 50K sigs who is going to run the recall campaign? What will be your message? Who is going to be your steering committee? Homeless folks don't fund polls, staff and commercials.
Lets start with the basics - First Question - Jasun are you paying signature gatherers or going the all volunteer route?
Matt if you would like someone who actually knows something about sig gathering campaigns to draw up a list of questions I would be happy to. You know, instead of just being a stenographer for his quotes?
For most political types in Portland to support or not support the recall effort is a moral issue (please no remarks about politicians and morals). If a politician steps up and supports the recall it could be seen as self-serving. Every time a big post like Mayor or County Chair opens up it sets off a whole domino effect of elected positions that open up and a lot of jockeying goes on. Thank of it: If the mayor goes, Randy or David Bragdon move in, Randy's or David's seat open up, who runs for that, Jeff Cogen? Then someone else’s seat's opens up, Who wants his seat? Some other elected official or political wantabe, then….
So the moral quandary is how do you support the recall without looking opportunistic. That’s why no one else than an old state Senator have stepped up and called for Adams resignation.
The other part of this is that it is really really un-cool for one elected to tell another elected how to do their job in public. The rule of thumb is to never-ever say anything negative about another elected – unless you are in a race against them. So for an elected to go to city hall and demand Sam Adams to leave the building and tell the other members of the City Council that they are chicken shit for not saying so is just not done. A lot of elected officials feel Sam Adams need to go, they won’t take his meetings or calls (Wyden, Merkley…)But they won’t go on public record calling for his resignation. You can do it if you want to but smart people like Rep. Jefferson Smith won’t.
I for one will be more than happy to get fifty signatures over the fourth of July weekend.
I imagine Jasun was joking about the requirement of a time donation, he understands of course that hardly anyone has any time. HOWEVER, the snarky snake-tongued cynics of the world can just fucking pick up some signature forms from the website when they become available and have all their friends over for a potluck to sign it. They could probably get 50 signatures before getting tired of dealing with their friends.
Also, the RSA website says they have 400 volunteers. If each one of them gets 50 signatures, that's 20K signatures. Each of those 400 stalwarts would only need to pass the torch ONCE, to the least flaky person on their 50-person list, and if all of those people can get another 50 each, voila, 40K.
And Finnegan, you were doing stuff with political ideas that were complicated and boring and not compatible with the Portland mindset, which is very sanguine in the summer, and very lugubrious in the winter, and never interested in things boring and complicated.
This still seems like recalling at the drop of a hat. You're going to recall a politician for lying? And not even about policy or a campaign promise, but about his personal life? That does not seem like a standard that has been applied equally to our politicians. How could it? We'd quickly run out of politicians if we got rid of the ones who lied. If the recall effort is about something beyond lying, please say so.
Adams' little alleged drunk driving accident over the weekend which only half the news media in Portland is covering will garner more support for his recall. Odd, all the witnesses on scene described Adams as smelling of alcohol, but the cop on scene refused to administer a breathalyser test to his boss. Imagine that.
This is getting absurd. Jasun - I have no interest in calling you or being involved with your effort. Just publicly answer the most basic question every ballot measure campaign must ask itself - are we going to pay for signatures and if so, what percentage of our final tally will be volunteer versus paid?
The Adams car accident was a freaking car accident. The O's story today was pathetic. OMG his zipper was down! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? Do you know how many times my zipper is down in my work pants when I am running to Home Depot on Jantzen Beach?
And while we are on the subject of Jantzen Beach - as a long time NoPo resident very familiar with the shopping center can we all agree that it is the most FUBAR traffic and parking patterns around? I know exactly where he got into his accident and I'm not surprised. No striping on that road, it rides like a Fun Center rollercoaster and people are doing all sorts of messed up passes etc.
Calls potential supporters jackasses to a local reporter.
Smooth
politics aside, this wurster cat sounds like a major douche.

That's right. Wurster is his own tool. And we'd be better off without Scam Adams. Hey, they're both true!

So your logic does not apply.
