Great post, Jane. It is a really great idea, it's too bad it wasn't executed very well. This makes me want to find other unauthorized audio tours of other museums (or just anywhere). Anyone know of any local ones?

The large Monet from the "Waterlilies" series that PAM uses in all of its advertising and fundraising provides my favorite PAM story. It was purchased in the early '90's for seven million dollars, and had no signature. It was then loaned to the Art Institute of Chicago for a year, after which time it came back, having acquired a signature, and worth an additional seven million.

This is hardly the only story of this type regarding PAM, or any museum, really.

Jane, you want non-white walls in a gallery? Have I ever got the place for you: http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/Blogto…

Rich, "Waterlilies" was acquired by Portland Art Museum in 1959 - so you must be talking urban legend there.
