You know, that 18 million doesn't just disappear into thin air.. it pays the salaries of lobbyists and their admin staff, travel/food money, stuff like that. Most of that is spent in Oregon, so that's actually 18 billion injected into our economy.

Do I like lobbyists? No. But that money isn't necessarily wasted. Tainted, sure.. but used by Oregonians to live in most cases.

Not sure what you're counting as "unions," Sarah, but there are only two on the list. And both of them combined spent less than Citizens for Brain Cancer--I mean, Fire Safety.

Not a Lobbyist,

Thanks for checking the groups - I did have the number wrong. Two of the groups (the special district assn and OR school boards assn) work with unions but are not trade associations themselves. That brings the count to four - the OR education Assn, Oregon AFSCME, the national Assn of General Contractors and the OR Assn of Hospital and Health Systems.

The Association of General Contractors and the Association of Hospitals and Health Systems would be SHOCKED to find out that they're labor unions, considering that they're both actually lobbying groups for industries, not workers.
