On my paystub, payroll taxes only add up to 30% of the income tax figures. It's not that "people don't understand' that 47% figure doesn't include payroll taxes - it's just that clarification doesn't matter. Payroll taxes are almost immaterial compared to income taxes.

"Woo hoo! No taxes!"

Oh course, the Federal Government is also spending $1.2 trillion more this year than it's bringing in. But heck, someone will pay for that later, right? Health care for all! No taxes!

The bill never comes due, baby! That's the American Way!

I'm not celebrating because I somehow owe $1,800 between Oregon and the IRS, and I don't own shit and don't have any stinking children.

@jackattak: how many exemptions did you claim? That fucked me over one year

Zero. I never claim any exemptions (I'm married and we both work).

There were extenuating circumstances. My wife has been unemployed since Feb '09, yada-yada-yada...

Tax bill was the lowest it's been in 5 years. We found a tax dude that apparently knows his shit compared to the previous 4 years, as nothing really changed between 2008-2009 for me...

Please wait...
