With respect to your conclusion, there's a difference between talking and anonymously spitting fire...
2
bd--if that is your real name--you're as an "assfucker"
3
On the upside Blue Oregon will get more email addresses for Mandate Media to sell.

Who's is ass fucking who?
4
The man in the shadows... isn't it always the ones that are hiding.
5
I don't mind the change. I'll just open up a new email account that's only for Blue Oregon. Then I'll call myself "Kari Chisholm."
6
Just for fun I went over to look at some of the threads. BO has now become the most boring blog in creation. All you have is Jeff, Kari and Carla talking about how smart they are and everyone else is kissing their butts. No dissent and really no discourse.

Their definition of a "troll" was anyone who didn't agree with them, whether they were posting anonymously or not. I hope they enjoy their new cluster f***.
7
And from their post it looks like you will have to link to your Facebook account to comment, not that I am really interested in commenting there, but I do not have Facebook for a reason.
8
RC, you are spouting pure ignorance. the main posters of late have been Steve Novick (boring?) and Chuck Sheketoff. Paulie Brading posts regularly from Southern Oregon. the biggest problem has been the crap spewed by chickenshit commenters who refuse to let the world know who they are yet still feel they have the right to crap on other people. cowards. like many of the commenters at Blogtown. it's easy to call names, attack people, throw your feces at others if no one ever knows who you are. real tough. finally BO has closed the doors on the brain-damaged troll-chimps. if you can't own your words, stfu.
9
My screen name leaves little to the imagination but that's because I'm boring and now Blue Oregon will be boring, too.

There are plenty of anonymous commenters who have a consistent screen identity. These folks still "own" their comments even if they would rather not be friended on facebook.

What about the "trolls"? One man's troll is another man's sycophant.
10
Well, whatever. I think it's great. Nobody will be reading BO anymore so Sheketoff, Novick, Chisholm, Axtman and Allworth can just chat with one another. Nobody else will give a lusty crap and I couldn't think of a better outcome for that Twinkie Eating fat man and his friends.

The whole thing was just a big advertisement for Chisholm's web services anyway.

"I built (every demoratic office seeker in any race in he State of Oregon) but I speak only for myself".

Jeff, Carla and the others were just unwitting dupes in the Chisholm con game.

BO is dead. Bye Bye and good riddance.
11
Oh, and by the way, fuck you too, Barnhart.
12
I guess I am technically "anonymous" because I don't use my full name, or because I haven't registered at BO (because it had no registration). But I always post comments with the same user name (and the reason I don't use my full name is because I share it with someone famous) and I always use the same email addy, and for that matter the same link. I do that pretty much everywhere I comment -- BO, BikePortland, a few other places.

So you're saying now I won't be able to comment at BO without becoming a Facebook fan or something?
13
Not "the" Michael Moore? ;-)
14
Just for fun, I went over to confirm RC's observation, which I assumed to be hyperbole.

Comments on the most recent post? Carla, Jeff and Barnhart.
15
I still don't understand why people associate with political groups they don't fit 100% idealistically on. Democrats are only just slightly less evil than Republicans.

Oh and I'd never use Facebook unless I was paid to do so, and quite a bit of money at that.
16
This is just absolutely embarrassing. How does Kari & Co. not get the fact that the only people who have any shred of political insight in this state (lobbyists, leg staffers, capitol insiders, electeds, consultants, etc.) won't be caught dead commenting under their real name. If there's any amount of professional risk involved and there's no clear political advantage, they're simply not going to use their name.

(For a parallel example, Matt, I bet that most of your best day-to-day sources would never, ever talk to you except under anonymous circumstances. If they're on the record, you're just going to get a pre-approved stock quote.)

On the flipside, you've got all the know-nothing dipshits who just love the sound of their own voice and don't know what's actually happening in Salem or city hall.

And so now that's all BO is.

On the other hand, this does open the field wide for an actual liberal blog with legitimate discussions...
17
Meh. If I'm going to enter into a political discussion where the intention is to "create meaningful relationships" I'd rather just go to a bar with people I actually care about and talk things over with them. Novick, you're invited. BO won't be getting any more hits from me.
18
Good, this ought to make all commentators toe the ideological line. Must keep in their good graces you know. Don't challenge the orthodoxy.
19
Ooh, fun! I just saw this.

First of all, Matt: Your story about Mark Wiener came out on April 15. We launched our new site on 4 a.m. on April 16. Do you really think we could pull something like that off in under 24 hours?

In truth, we've been talking about this for three years - and working on it for two years. It's been a serious engineering hurdle, and I've spent thousands of dollars and months of life on it. According to my contacts at Facebook, BlueOregon is the first political blog in the country to have committed 100% to Facebook-authenticated identities.

And yes, that's controversial. We get it. There are anonymous sources who have important and interesting things to say; however those folks almost never post that information on a blog, even anonymously. If some whistleblower has a tip they want to share with a BlueOregon contributor, we're definitely interested.

But we're not interested in the massive onslaught of anonymous crap that's been pouring in lately - especially the "blog swarm" comments that come in from paid services shilling for the oil industry and Republican candidates.

Will the new BlueOregon be "boring"? Only if your idea of fun is trading insults with anonymous assholes on the internet. Personally, I'm done with that. I'm more interested in building a community of people who talk about stuff that matters in ways that are meaningful.

Oh, and that accusation about collecting email addresses? The old system collected emails, the new one doesn't. So... huh? We don't even require you to become a Facebook fan of BlueOregon to participate. We authenticate you, and then you can comment. That is all.

One more thing: If this was all about protecting Mark Wiener, would we have linked to the "Man in the Shadows" story in our brand new Water Cooler feature -- AS YOU ASKED ME TO DO, Matt?

"But we're not interested in the massive onslaught of anonymous crap that's been pouring in lately" (KFC)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the "anonymous crap" was having an impact on Mandate's many clients. But this move may jeopardize BO's boast of being "the biggest blog in Oregon" (Kari's words, not mine). When Kari woos candidates with impressive figures of page hits and comments left, does he include the hundreds of (mostly porn) spams he allowed to be posted?

I know that the automatic link to previous commenters' FB accounts took some by surprise. Actually, according to Kari, he did this manually. I just wonder what criteria he used? It seems several legitimate comments have been scrubbed as well. (This is the section of his blog where KFC buries his "disclaimer" - when he's not "forgetting.") Again, are we talking about some method to Mandate's madness or something arbitrary? Another famous Chisholm glitch?

"fun is trading insults with anonymous assholes on the internet. Personally, I'm done with that." (KFC)

Is it KFC's plan now to only trade insults with assholes he knows? He did that before BO's face lift.

I enjoyed reading and sometimes commenting to B.O., but in my day job I am a professional who more often than not represents "The Man" and there is no way I would risk my family's financial security in order to recreationally post my leftie-socialist viewpoints under my own name on B.O. Perhaps in the next life I will be a spokesperson for progressive causes and hold a day job where my client's don't "Google" everybody they employ to vet people for potentially hostile / adverse beliefs and statements, but for now that is not the case. It is kind of funny that I donate money to Kitz and Novick and a variety of other progressive folks but am not qualified to speak my opinions on a blog like B.O., but whatever. I support the owner of B.O. to operate the site any way he chooses.

Please wait...
