I must pass credit onto Reddit user "ironcrotch" and also take this opportunity to plug the Portland reddit, where I originally found this video: http://reddit.com/r/Portland

That's Will Forte's "Tim Calhoun" character acting as Vancouver's mayor, right?

Just... wow. Mayor Leavitt telling the constituent they're here to have a "civil discourse" after Jeanne Harris' display... christ on a crutch. I hope this goes viral.

Stay classy Vancouver.

Does anyone know what the rules are about putting up signs in vancouver? This group seems to be littering the public right of way with many of their signs, is it legal for someone to go out and clean up this litter?

I am an advocate of light rail to Vancouver, and I believe that any new bridge across the Columbia should include tolling (both as an equitable form of public financing, and as a strategy for congestion management).

But Councilor Harris was completely out of line. The City Council Meeting includes time on the agenda for public testimony. This provides citizens an opportunity to address their elected officials. Jeanne Harris abused her position of power to silence and intimidate constituents who had every right to address this subject in front of City Council.

Mayor Leavitt also looked like a royal turd, allowing Councilor Harris to berate these folks. His assertions that light rail and tolling aren't official city business are ludicrous, considering that was the single most powerful issue he touted during his campaign (and probably won him the election).

Just because City Council doesn't have an official role in the decision-making process, doesn't mean that citizens don't have the right to express their views to their elected officials. The CRC is a project that will reshape the City of Vancouver, and City Councilors should encourage citizens to share their views, and should articulate those views to the State Legislature and other decision-makers at the table.

The Vancouver City Council acted disgracefully, and should be ashamed of their behavior.

I think this is the first time I've ever agreed with Lars Larson on an issue.

I need a drink.

If you don't want to be called out specifically, don't behave like a Nazi bitch.

Until folks start showing up in cowboy boots, shorts and nail polish and yelling from the balcony, it's not news.

Just like on the daytime dramas, there's not a sympathetic character in the lot.

Check out the NoTolls.com crew, representing those who work and shop in Oregon but live in Washington for the tax benefit (no sales tax in OR, low property tax in WA). They whine that a toll on their commute would be double taxation, but they'd still be deadbeats compared to their neighbors in Portland proper.

Ain't it funny how libertarians whine about having to pay their share for government services they use every day?

Please wait...
