No, I think the mute black guy transferred out. At least I thought they said that in passing. Hence the opening for tennis-ball-mouth with the Bieber-do.
Sorry to burst your bubble Dave, but in the very first scene in the rehearsal studio, they mentioned how they were down a member now that 'Matt' had transferred, and needed to recruit new blood to compete at Nationals. Well, 'Matt' was the mute black guy character, so I don't think he'll be getting any characterization, ever.
I totally agree with your assessment of Coach Bieste (it's French, remember?) I think the writers of Glee are pretty good at making people both comical and three-dimensional, in general.
I was so relieved that they decided not to go the way of so many shows and just pump up the drama with on-again off-again Rachel and Finn stuff. I'm excited to see the Tina/Mike storyline unfold and also the Kurt romance that the blogs have been talking about (OK, outing myself as a huge dork here....)
John Stamos is supposed to guest star as Emma's dentist boyfriend, so I think we'll be seeing more of her soon, much to your enjoyment, Dave!
