I don't think that it is an error that the area west of The Pearl along I405 had an income jump of 99%, seeing as there weren't that many people living in those fancy high-rise condos 10 years ago, as most of them hadn't yet been built, or weren't fully occupied. When you consider that a lot of those spaces were empty lots, vacant buildings, or transient living establishments, on which virtually no census data was collected in 2000, and now they're full of people, 5% of whom are Same Sex Couples that could be DINKs, the change isn't that surprising.

It's an error - I drove through that neighborhood while they were collecting their data and skewed their statistics way upward.

Please start investing in Lents Town Center and stop taking your money to Clackistan. We promise to help you drink microbrews and wine, eat delicious foods and shop at organicrunchbohomart. A flower shop and a dry cleaner would be nice too.

In the meantime - we already have better sushi and froyo than Clackistan and you can move Nordstrom Rack and Old Navy to Eastport Plaza so we can all live happily ever after.

Lents is nothing like Beaverton and pretty much exactly like North Portland, only we have better dedicated bike paths and natural areas.

BruceWang, this is the 2010 data, more or less -- it's the first tract-level demographics since 2000. Census eliminated the long form this year, so there won't be additional information coming out of the 2010 census -- just population and a few other bare essentials.

The area with the sharpest decline is more Foster Powell and Powellhurst-Gilbert than Lents. A couple of subdivisions from Lents are in that area, but most of the "Lents" in the tracts with the sharpest decline is commercial property.

The core of Lents (south of Holgate) only experienced a slight decline, and a sizable chunk of Lents (on Mount Scott) saw household incomes soar.
