I think Stewart knows he has influence yet uses it only in extreme cases of universal, political fuckheadedness. He focused on this merely because it crossed a line. He's careful not be be the left's Fox News equivalent.
THE REALITY ABOUT THE DAILY SHOW:
Since 1999, Political satirist Jon Stewart has hosted The Daily Show on Comedy Central, owned by Viacom â the fourth largest media conglomerate in the U.S. Jon has gained considerable attention and respect for his ability to âdeliver truth through humorâ. Many articles have been written about how his Daily Show delivers and assesses the news more accurately than the networks and cable. In recent times Jon was credited by the Huffington Post, NPR and other left-leaning outlets for his âhard hittingâ interview with Mad Moneyâs Jim Cramer. Now to be sure, Cramer is a suspect individual who is alleged to have used his show to âpump and dumpâ stocks (not mentioned by Jon). However, while Stewart took on Cramer for putting entertainment before journalism, did we ever hear Jon mention the Chief Operating Officer of the NYSE who presided over the infamous âflash crashâ of May, 2010 â who just happened to be his brother, Larry Leibowitz? (Jon changed his last name.) Certainly not. On the day of that âflash crashâ Jon had some pretty good zingers about âfat fingersâ, but alas an opportunity for some real insight from a real insider â his brother â was passed over. Larry Leibowitz is a former international investment banker who has served on a number of market and industrial committees, and again â is the current COO of the NYSE.
It is openly admitted that chicken hawk neoconservatives like William Kristol love doing The Daily Show, where Stewart might make them mildly uncomfortable for a minute, before jumping past the really hard hitting questions and shaking their hands with a smile. In the spirit of his âmoderate liberalismâ he has given a pass on real issues and war crimes to the likes of Doug Feith, John Bolton and Condoleeza Rice among others. How could a âsaneâ person joke around with the architects of an illegal, unjustified war that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of innocent people being dead? If neocons love doing his show, one can only imagine how the eugenics loving globalists who pose as concerned liberals on his show feel about it (Clinton, Gates, Gore, etc.). For proof of a globalist connection to the Daily Show, one need go no further than one of the showâs Emmy Award winning writers, Kevin Bleyer, who is a member of the globalist round table group known as the Council on Foreign Relations, whose stated mission can only be described as the erosion of U.S. sovereignty. His Wikipedia entry proudly boasted about his CFR membership until recently, but it can still be confirmed elsewhere, like on the CFRâs own website and Bleyerâs Facebook page in which two of his five âlikesâ are the CFR and Foreign Affairs, the CFRâs publication. In addition, Bleyer (who was one of the writers present on the night I was assaulted) is a Truman National Security Fellow, an organization that ârecruits, trains, and positions progressives across America to lead on national securityâ. It appears that Bleyer is positioned nicely. One of the Truman National Security Projectâs objectives is Operation Free, a particular project that âorganizes military veterans to speak out on issues of climate change and sustainable energy securityâ. One can assume that Bleyer will not be writing any comedic exposes of âClimate Gateâ anytime soon. He may, though, continue to write jokes for Barack Obama as he has done in the past â another instance that makes one consider possible conflicts of interest for The Daily Show and its true range of political satire.
TV is a wasteland and The Daily Show is incredibly funny and real. It is totally unique in that it is comedy, journalism and sometimes activism. I can't believe Faux News hasn't tried to copy the format and make something attempting comedy. I don't expect much from TV but I am consistently amazed when I see Stewart and Colbert.
PS: I frequently disagree with their politics.
TSW nailed it. Stewart saves his real influence to go against political fuckheadedness and this was political fuckheadedness at it's worst. Stewart was able to put the onus of just about everyone on the Republicans being fuckheaded. I can't remember the exact dates but most major news outlets hadn't covered the story in months and after Stewart really started in on it they all had stories out almost immediately.
Shep Smith over on Fox News was actually really tough on the Republicans too to be fair. Of course Shep Smith is about the only person I'd borderline call a journalist over on Fox News.
Of course Stewart has the most influence of any pundit on the left. It's tailor made for 20 & 30 somethings. How many young now people say they get their news specifically from the Daily Show? Yet the media downplays its significance when it comes to any agenda it promotes. If you disagree with the Daily show than the meme is you need to 'lighten up' because it's just comedy. But the real agenda of the show is not progressive or liberal. It promotes the divisive left/right paradigm for the left every bit as much as Fox news promotes the right. Divide and conquer for the shadow government. And if you want to quibble over that point, refer to previous post...
@Spindles: Kind of sloppy of you to not put an attribution on the text you posted yesterday. I websearched a section of text and it appears to be by Matt Meyer, a "9/11 Truther" who claims he was roughed up after he was "moved to peacefully confront" Jon Stewart at a New York bookstore. Post what you want, but you should make it clear whether you're writing the text or taking it from elsewhere.
There ya go. I don't support the 9/11 truthers who instigated that fight, then cry about it. The 9/11 truth movement has been fairly well co-opted, and has been for years. Little sloppy, I admit. But the stuff from that article I posted is accurate, and well put. The info is what's most important.
You may not be aware that the signing of the Declaration of Independence was faked on a French ship in the Atlantic...painters were brought in to record the scene in a mock-up of Independence Hall. And the so-called "Revolutionary War" was a farce...the British Empire was actually desperate to get rid of its North American colonies, but didn't want to admit it to the rest of the world, so they arranged an elaborate farce with some rich colonial dudes. Unfortunately the plan didn't fully work and the Brits ended up still stuck with what's now Canada. Ask the Freemasons! Now it can be told!

Spindles, if what you say is true, it must be time for a 9/11 Truth Truth movement.
