Many assassins throughout history were indeed nutbags. But your average nutbag goes and shoots up a McDonald's or a post office: This one specifically targeted an officeholder and described it in advance as an "assassination."

To say it wasn't political at all misses an important point, and to say that nutbags like him aren't inflamed by large parts of the media seeing to it that we're constantly furious at each other is just not true.

Definitely a political assassin whether or not he has schizophrenia (I believe he does). I agree with rich tho, the climate of violent political speech against liberals, primarily (99% of it, I'd wager) is the main culprit. I'm lookin at you Ms 'RELOAD' Palin.
3
It seems to me that Loughner may have been schizophrenic. He was in his early 20's, right around the time it usually surfaces. The shooting didn't really seem to be strongly motivated by politics. He didn't kill himself, or seem suicidal which is extremely telling. He briefly me Gifford in 2007. Perhaps he constructed some sort of paranoid fantasy surrounding her that was induced by the exposure Gifford had campaigning.

"I agree with rich tho, the climate of violent political speech against liberals, primarily (99% of it, I'd wager) is the main culprit."
So violent speech against conservatives is alright?

"I want you to argue with them and get in their face!" Barack Obama, September 2008

“We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.” Obama, October 2010

“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!” Obama, March 2010

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Obama, 2008

For every comment you guys post, I can post the same kind of rhetoric from the left. This only took seconds to find and it was from only Obama.

I'd love to see the context on those, Andy. Especially the "Untouchables" quote. And...

Oh, shit. Here:

There.

NYTimes, June 15, 1997
The Brothers Emanuel

Suddenly Emanuel grabbed his steak knife and, as those who were there remember it, shouted out the name of another enemy, lifted the knife, then brought it down with full force into the table.

''Dead!'' he screamed.

The group immediately joined in the cathartic release: ''Nat Landow! Dead! Cliff Jackson! Dead! Bill Schaefer! Dead!''
7
All right...How about an example that doesn't make you sound crazy?
9
Oh, okay. I've heard what that long list of weird quotes is actually from: apparently some right wing dipshit who lies for a living has compiled a list of things like "I am angry!" so babblers like Andy and Spindles have "proof" that leftists want to kill people.

Andy buddy: you can't even reprint things properly. Removed from their context, they don't make any sense. And in context, they don't make your case for you. Have you ever said you're angry? Hey, me too! Have you ever said you wanted to apply "second amendment solutions" to politicians you dislike?

Really? Why not? Because you thought twice about theatening someone's life in public? Makes you a better person than Sharon Angle, then.

Really Rich? Rahmbo is well known for his aggressive, nutty behavior. His rhetoric is every bit as syrupy thick as the most ardent right winger. If you're trying to build a good argument against extremism in politics, defending the self-styled "attack dog" of Chicago politics is a bad idea. By the way, I post my sources, where's yours?
To set the record straight, I am neither right of left. Both sides are utterly complicit in the bankrupting of this country.

Rahm Emanuel is:
Pro unconditional war:
http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/firstthou…

But he's a good liar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxFNGDZQMM8…

Good thing too, because he loves the idea of conscripted military service:

Pals with Blagojevich:

In bed with AIPAC:

(did she say he was in the Israeli army?)

he is a creep:

On Air America Radio, talk show host Randi Rhodes recommended doing to Bush what Michael Corleone, in "The Godfather, Part II," does to his brother. "Like Fredo," she said, "somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw!" -- then she imitated the sound of a gunshot. In the Guardian, a leading British daily, columnist Charlie Brooker issued a plea: "John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. -- where are you now that we need you?"

You can find an image of the "Kill Bush" t-shirt she sold at CafePress here: http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/a…

Do you want the audio of this one too? I could post these all day and night. When are you going to realize that both sides say things in public that should never even be thought of.
12
I didn't catch the part where I was defending Rahm Emanuel, because I wasn't. Also: what sources am I supposed to be posting? I was stating my opinions.

Here's one: you always do this. You filibuster with things that are beside the point to put it gently. Andy from fucking Beaverton did a better job of making your point for you.

Although Andy: I'm pretty sure she got fired for that one, and then Air America went out of business. That pretty much never happens when some reactionary bedwetter does it. So that's actually the point here: some non-politician from the left says stupid shit like that, it's a national crisis. A candidate for public office who happens to be Republican though: that's just a funny li'l joke!

Anyway, that's why your example is still crap.
13
Rich, I don't think you're smart enough to pick up on anyone's point, let alone make one.
14
Andy called me a "tard" yesterday, Spindles says rb isn't "smart enough"...charming gents and/or ladies, aren't they?
15
......he started it....
16
Man up Todd! Stop pouting about being called a name. You just called me a lady, so stop your whining. Are you going to pull a Loughner now?

"I tell people don't kill all the liberals. Leave enough so we can have two on every campus - living fossils - so we will never forget what these people stood for."

- Rush Limbaugh, Denver Post, 12-29-95

"Get rid of the guy. Impeach him, censure him, assassinate him."

- Rep. James Hansen (R-UT), talking about President Clinton

"We're going to keep building the party until we're hunting Democrats with dogs."

- Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX), Mother Jones, 08-95

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building."

- Ann Coulter, New York Observer, 08-26-02

I can post more recent examples. If you add it all up, the right far exceeds the left in violent political speech. Right wing talk radio. There is nothing like that on the left.
Need more evidence? Who is getting shot? Liberals. You have to go back to Reagan to find a right winger that was shot. But since then we have had Oklahoma City, George Tiller and now this.
19
There are few others, attack on the holocaust museum, attack on a liberal church in tennessee, attack on a federal (IRS) building by flying a plane into it, all by right wingers. Andy you are an apologist for violent loons.
20
Rich is owning this thread.
21
Andy and Spindles sure are elevating the level of discourse here, wouldn't you all say? Especially "he started it." That was poetry, just pure poetry...
22
If readers here actually read and understood what their eyes were seeing, I wouldn't have to repeat myself. Most political assassinations with agendas are committed by people who are to the extreme political ideology of the victim. I've posted examples on a previous topic you want them.
Since what I write doesn't sink in, here are pictures for you to study.

23
I WISH I understood what my eyes were seeing.
24
Who wants to bet Andy from Beaverton thinks the crosshairs on that map were "surveyor's symbols?"
25
I wouldn't waste your time anymore Andy. The people on this blog are not interested in any sort of dialog that is based on information. They are just want to throw around personal insults when their worldview is threatened. They are as walled off from reality as Sara Palin, and as smug as Olberman. They don't, and will never have any understanding that this country will cease to exist in a matter of years, or why. Keep on reading establishment media guys. Keep on pretending you're intellectuals.
26
Hey Tommy, I guess my attempt to make this thread a little more light hearted flew right over your head, huh? Don't worry, I won't make that mistake again.
27
Hey Rich, didn't catch that part where you were defending Rahm Emanuel? "Oh, okay. I've heard what that long list of weird quotes is actually from: apparently some right wing dipshit who lies for a living has compiled a list of things like "I am angry!"
28
Spindles, you're spouting vague predictions about the country's decline in an overt attempt to appear wise and more learned than the rest of the commenters. It just seems akin to the oneupsmanship of a schoolyard "my dad can beat up your dad" squabble.

Instead of making throwaway references to some intellectual school of thought to which only you are privy, why not actually engage in a discussion?
29
Well then, let me be more specific. There is a 1.6 quadrillion derivatives bubble which is deflating. The private, for profit Federal Reserve is not doing anything but printing more money and increasing debt, and in a couple of years the whole GDP is just going to go to pay the interest. We are seeing a dollar dump starting all over the world. I doubt it will be the world reserve currency by the end of the year. Russia and China are now trading their currencies against each other. Other countries are moving to purchase oil in, Iran is selling oil denominated in Euros. We are beginning to see massive currency wars. And as the world drops the US dollar as its reserve you wont see a huge dollar dump in trillions of dollars come back to the US. This is all being compounded by the economic corruption, which makes it more profitable in the short term to not engage in any solutions that support a transition to a different kind of economic paradigm. You will see the bankruptcy of most of the cities and states in this country as a result. The United States government is incapable of telling the truth. It has become absolutely useless at best, and at worst it’s an outright enemy at this point. It only took two years for the Soviet Union to collapse.
If you'd like an introduction to how the world works, watch this video. It's called The Money Masters. Yes, the production values are bad. The information is priceless. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5…
30
It was a shit video that proved nothing last time, too. That's why no one takes you seriously.
31
Whats a matter buddy? I thought you were above engaging in these type of posts.
32
I can't wait to tell the news guys that spindles made us all uneasy with ramblings about the end of America in this thread and how we thought about telling someone. I have never seen someone fail so hard at trying to appear like an intellectual. Freshman at George Fox is my guess.
33
That was the exact response I wanted to elicit.
34
@The Darkness: It's gotta be Reed! I think this guy lives on my street and has a rack of katana in his front window!

@Spindles, here's better evidence of your predictions:

http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2011/01/sec…

I'd recommend that blog to you as we all watch The Decline (while listening to NOFX's "The Decline").
35
"...if a man's really got the truth in his pocket, he doesn't talk about it. He hangs it out on a shingle where people can see it." - Putney Swope
36
How's that for psuedo-intellectual, fuckers?! OH MY GOD, SNOW!!!
37
Spindles: Promise?
38
I do
39
Loughner's friend Zach Osler said today on Good Morning America, "He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn’t listen to political radio. He didn’t take sides. He wasn’t on the left. He wasn’t on the right."
The more we find out about the shooter, the more he sounds like a leftist. He was a 9/11 truther, hates Israel, hates bankers (Jews) and watches movies like Zeitgeist. I think if he lived in Portland, most of the bloggers here would have met him at one of the many protests.

Please wait...
