I don't have cable, but I have a PS3. For $7.99, it's worth it to me to see Parks and Rec and 30 Rock. They recently added The Daily Show, which is nice. And honestly, as someone who hasn't watched cable television in a number of years, the adverts aren't terrible. I actually kind of like seeing what the rest of people are exposed to - it hasn't started to piss me off yet.
Though, if they added commercials to movies, it would be a deal breaker (I haven't watched any Hulu Plus movies yet). Still, good news for the service.
Now, if Netflix WI could just get new shows faster...
The whole point of Criterion is superior quality and presentation. How does that even translate into a delivery medium like Hulu? It's like Maker's Mark pairing up with Anheuser-Busch to brew malt liquor. Is everybody just dying to watch Kurosawa on their laptop or what?
I had the Hulu Plus for a little while (Beta release). It was awful in comparison to Netflix. I don't feel any burning need to watch shows as they actually get released. Also, the UI was awful and Hulu had the worst possible audio leveling between shows and the adverts; like an easy 30% volume increase
I was thinking that the whole Criterion collection was already online, but perhaps not. A search of TPB for videos with the word "Criterion" in the title found 177 items.
I pay for Netflix, but I wouldn't pay for Hulu. Too many things are flawed about Hulu, even with an ad-blocker to remove the ads.
I pay $18 a month for both Netflix and Hulu Plus and watch them on my HD tv using my Roku box. Between the two services, I have more content than I know what to do with and the video quality is great. Hulu Plus definitely could be improved as could Watch Instantly but I think they work well together for what I'm paying and I'm sure they'll only get better.
I spent a few bucks to connect my laptop to hifi and TV so I could watch Hulu and Netflix on a bigger screen. That said, as long as I'm saddled with Comcast, 720p is out of the question. I can't even expose the 5yo to AC/DC videos on YouTube without buffering issues.
That is either a) youtube's issue, (test this by streaming from vimeo fine)
b) CDN's issue.
c) DNS issue (related to b) (change to a different/local DNS
Why can't you stream movies or Hulu between 4PM and 1AM ? If I want to watch a movie I have to take an evening nap and get up in the middle of the night or get on my usb chippie from a torrenting neighbor.
I'm with Erik. We should be congratulating those bold visionaries on the couch siphoning their money to Hulu Plus (and its corporate owners Comcast and Rupert Murdoch) while cutting out pesky Portland middlemen like Movie Madness and Video Verite.
We should all be watching what middle America watches.

but it's almost certainly not Comcast.

I dislike Hulu, but good for Criterion for going with an alternative. Fuck Netflix. You guys are just supporting the Blockbuster of the 21st century.
