If you read the interview, it's clear that she believed she was making an investment in herself, betting that the publicity surrounding the purchase would get her a lot of attention. She's bet correctly, it looks like.

If it ends up leading to exactly the outcome she wished, and she couldn't have otherwise achieved the same outcome for less than 10K, then she's done pretty well for herself, no matter how stupid it sounds at first glance.
