If I were investing 4 million into a hotel, I wouldn't like a homeless camp springing up across the street - but I have more empathy for them than 'occupy', as they are on private property.

The Portland Business Alliance is part of the problem, and not part of the solution.

@Graham - HERE they are! I found the rich complainers.
4
Damn business. Other than give us all employment and a paycheck every couple of weeks allowing us to buy life's necessities, what have they ever done for anybody?

Well PBA has a point and a position to protect; don't be surprised they act.

OP should anticipate, and throw up a Kickstarter, fill up a big bag of cash, and when the curtain comes down give a check to Nick with the finger and laugh all the way home.

The PBA is hurting themselves by complaining, driving customers away from big bad downtown. PBA members have received billions of dollars over the years from you and I in the form of urban renewal districts, federal matching, property swaps, provided legal services and consulting and a 220 million reconstruction of the transit mall.

The Chinatown campout is a struggle between a wealthy property owner and the city using homeless as pawns. The city should simply condemn the land and set up a late night Chinese food cart pod.

J Renaud's solution reeks of evil capitalism

It's not a hotel, it's a HOSTEL--far different animal. Based on my patronage of them around the world, you'd often be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two constituencies. The business community needs to shut the hell up, lest their own practices become a focus.

I'll turncoat when hippies build a Tesla Roadster. Oh wait - they did.

As soon at R2Dream set up, I told everyone that would listen (I think she was asleep, but still listening, I promise - I know because she's my GF and that's how she always listens...) that this would eventually spell the end of OccPDX. The mayor will eventually need to appease PBA, and that will first happen by shutting down Mr. Knight's RandyLeanard-slap. Then when the world complains that homeless people are being treated differently than the trustafarians down the street, OccPDX will have to go too, with much wailing, gnashing of teeth, and wielding of batons. Ready - GO.

I am looking at my annual $322.68 Urban Renewal bill anybody want to sign a little initiative petition to end this transfer payment to the 1%.

Please wait...
