These actions by the Oakland BART pigs shouldn't really even be a surprise - especially given their track record for gunning down innocent civilians. It's Hella fucked up, still. Waging a full-on MILITARY-STYLE offense against peaceful activists is a blatant human rights violation. These goddamn pigs must think they're in Gaza or the West Bank.

I can assure you the world has much bigger problems to deal with. I'm guessing the world community is spending as much time thinking about Occupy as we Americans spend thinking about protests in other countries. Unless that protest has an impact on oil prices, no one on either side is paying much mind.

Maybe Denis means the worlds police forces are watching effective crowd control in action.

@2: Way to be the self-centered ugly American who presumed to speak for the country and the "world community" as a whole. Speak for yourself. There's lots of mainstream media coverage of protests in non-oil-exporting countries, and even when there isn't, lots of us pay close attention anyway.

To think all these years, and the books I've bought on etiquette while visiting foriegn countries to avoid being labled an 'ugly american'- that I actually had the whole 'ugly american' thing backwards.
The WORLD is indeed watching OUR every move all the time and would deeply care if some people got tear-gassed.
The world does revolve around us I guess.

Not too complicated: Lots of us in this country pay attention to protests elsewhere in the world. And lots of people elsewhere in the world pay attention to protests in this country. Why do you think people in Egypt ordered pizzas for protestors in Wisconsin? There's examples of this in coverage and online commentary about demonstrations all over the place. I wish I could say I'm surprised anyone is even questioning this.

All I'm saying is that 50 people getting tear gassed because they tried to re-vacate a park they had been "peaceably" removed from in Oakland isn't even a faint blip on the world's radar. I assure something much worse just happened somewhere else in the world while I was typing this response.

So with that fucking attitude Chuck, the NEXT time something rotten happens to YOU, i assume there won't be ANY bitching on YOUR part b/c hey... there's always bigger problems somewhere else in the world.

Come to think of it, NONE of us should EVER complain about anything b/c someone somewhere else is having it even worse. Jews being gassed by Nazis... meh. Someone else had it worse.

See how that logic works?

DamosA: my original comment was only in reference to the title of the post. The "world" doesn't give two shits about Occupy, and they sure as hell aren't watching. Here in the states? We care a lot, as evidence by the number of people and the amount of coverage. But if you think someone in Berlin, or Mumbai, or Tokyo, or Capetown, or Rio or anywhere else outside of US has the time or interest to ponder Occupy, you have a seriously inflated idea of international interest in domestic issues.

There is a well planned, nationally coordinated action currently taking place against Occupy. Each Occupied city will be taken down one-by-one in intervals rather than eradicating every Occupied city at once. Orders come down from the top. If Andy and Frank want that shit gone, then it's gonna go when they say. I think the feds and Portland Police are a bit worried about the occupiers of Occupy Portland cuz they are so Anarchy/peaceful. Portland will be one of the last to go. It will just dissipate, implode or move elsewhere to evolve on it's own sometime before December of 2014. Something can be said about why Chicago and S.F. were chosen as targets for drastic measure with extreme prejudice.

Also, it's not like I meant it literally, exactly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_whole_wor…
