He could have "gotten himself shot?" The police bear no responsibility for shooting people? Come on, it's time to stop blaming the victims of police brutality. Our hyper-militarized police force is putting China to shame.

Forgive the casual use of "gotten." It's an ugly word anyway. And "could have been" is more apt.
