James Brown "Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto"
2
Good choice for Thursday's "Commenter's Choice" poll.
3
"There's A Star Above the Manger Tonight" by Red Red Meat
4
'CHRISTMAS IN HOLLIS' BY RUN-DMC OR GET THE FUCK OUT.
5
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love, performed each year on Letterman.
6
Okay, I will try (so hard) not to panic because I know it can still make the Commenter's Choice poll. But you DO realize that "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is absent this poll? It's not Christmas until Darlene Love brings the house down on Letterman.
7
Why isn't "SHUTUP VEGAN!!!" an option? I am disappointed.
8
No O, Holy Night? What the fuck is wrong with you?
9
What? No 'Donde Esta, Santa Claus'?
10
Fairy Tale of New York by the Pogues. Written after 1970-ish, but easily the best Christmas song ever.
11
@8, I suggest you read the entire post.
12
Fairytale of New York was released in the mid-80s. But yeah, there's that song, and everything else that's worse than it.

(although Slade's Merry Christmas Everyone and Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day, both from 1975, should both be in anyone's top five)
13
@8

LEARN... TO... READ!!!!! (Also, see special NOTE FROM HUMPY*)
14
95% of you are wrong.
15
No matter which one wins, we all lose.
16
My heart says Feliz Navidad, but Grandpa's old records are echoing in my brain. Only one song on this list was written by Irving Berlin, people!
17
okay yeah it came out in 1974 but my favorite xmas song when I was a kid was Frank Zappa - "Don't Eat That Yellow Snow" - Thanks Dad!
18
"Up On The Housetop" -- which, according to Wikipedia, is the second-oldest secular Christmas song (after the venerable "Jingle Bells").
19
What about "Baby, It's Cold Outside"? Nothing says Christmas like a guy trying to get laid.
20
holy crap, there are way better secular xmas songs than any of these, including Rufus Thomas' I'll Be Your Santa Baby, Mack Rice's Santa Claus Needs Some Lovin', Commander Cody's Daddy's Drinking Up Our Christmas, Bill and Bonnie Hearne's Christmas in a Honky Tonk (New Year's Drunk in Jail) and Sarah Brown's My Christmas Tree is Hung with Tears, and that's just for starters.
21
"Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues followed by "Indian Giver" by The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Everything else just gargles my balls.
22
@ randyzpdx

LEARN... TO... READ!!! (And see special NOTE FROM HUMPY*).
23
Since everyone else is ignoring what Steve wrote in his post, I'll vote for The Man Who Came to Dinner and The Thin Man as the best Christmas movies.
24
Where's Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee?

EGREGIOUS OMISSION.
25
@ TSW
Wow. That's a great suggestion for Thursday's COMMENTER'S CHOICE poll, which you would have known about if you had LEARNED TO READ!! (Also see special NOTE FROM HUMPY*).
26
If "Santa Baby" fucking wins, I'm cancelling Christmas for everyone forever.
27
This post proves that EVERYONE who comments on Blogtown is illiterate or at the very least, functionally illiterate.

Albert King - Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin' (not the Lynyrd Skynyrd version!)

@Ned, Santa Baby is literally the only traditional Christmas song I can remotely stand. I'm not saying it's good, but it doesn't make me want to slam speakers with a hammer until they're dust.
29
"Thank you for forgetting that I ever had anything to do with 'Last Christmas'" -Andrew Ridgeley
30
Beach Boys 'Little Saint Nick'
31
How about "Ever Fallen In Love" by the Buzzcocks? That's a great song!
32
What's a COMMENTER'S CHOICE?

I thought we were naming xmas songs we like to masturbate to.
33
It's sacrilege not to include Richard Cheeses' "Christmas in las Vegas" - one of the best songs of all time. Of ALL TIME.
34
@ WSH:

1. It's not my fault you wrote incomprehensible directions...and

2. I don't give a shit, either!
35
Where's Blue Christmas?

Also you should include Clarence Carter's "Back Door Santa". It's from 1968, so that should qualify also.
36
+1 for Richard Cheese "CHRISTMAS in LAS VEGAS"
37
I hate all those songs.

Can I vote for that Flaming Lips Christmas song now?
38
DI's version of "Mr. Grinch." No contest.

Please wait...
