I guess I'd need to know about a few little things not mentioned here: how much they cost, wages and labor conditions I'd be supporting with a purchase, durability, and comfort: whether the soles are thick enough for comfortable walking outside the house, what it'd feel like to have a thick piece of elastic around my ankle. If I voted no, it would have nothing whatsoever to do with "weird things suck!"
My response in terms of style is that they look sort of lazy and dull, popular for the same reasons as Crocs.
