IN WHICH THE SINGLE LARGEST NEWS STORY IN REGARDS TO THIS GAME IS COMPLETELY AVOIDED.

I am very excited that both Kuma and Zangief are in this game, thereby allowing the Russian bear wrestler to actually fight a bear. Yes.

@ Graham: You lost me. There's a story bigger than the online issues or the hyped-but-overall-infuriating gem system? Or are you talking about the DLC characters being mostly present on-disc already? Yes, that's a thing, but it doesn't much bother me (and is arguably de rigueur for big DLC stuff these days, whether the internet likes it or not).

@ Rev: Which is only made better by the comments the two characters throw back and forth. Russian bear wrestler wrestles bear, then they argue back and forth. It's glorious.

Ah yeah, the sexism of the fighting game community.

I'll grant that it's appalling, but it's not so much a problem with SFxT so much as its an issue with the competitive system and players surrounding the genre that just happened to pop up immediately prior to the release of this game.

Throwing it into this review would have been a pretty flimsy tangent.

@NEX: NOPE. YOU START THE ARTICLE WITH SOMETHING LIKE:

AFTER A MARKETING PUSH MARRED BY CONTROVERSY *LINK TO SOMETHING* SFXT HAS FINALLY HIT THE SHELVES.

AND YES, YOU SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THE ON-DISC DLC. IT'S BULLSHIT. CAPCOM GOT A PASS FROM THEIR FANS ON THEIR "NEW VERSION FOR $40 EVERY 6 MONTHS" BUSINESS MODEL, AND NOW THEY'RE TRYING TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE EVEN FURTHER.

BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO BE CRITICAL OF CAPCOM, BUT THAT'S YOUR JOB AS A CRITIC: TO CRITICIZE.

We have been playing this game non stop at Best Bout. It is a lot of fun without a doubt, the players here work around the gems (which are also banned at our monthly events) and the glitches (infinite combos are banned too). Aside from that online play has those pesky bugs, and roughly 10-12 characters still need to be unlocked for the game to closer to completely rounded. Unfortunately, not all of the "dlc" characters (they are actually on the disc already) are cross platform, meaning some of them are tournament banned.

Aside from all of that the competitive players here really like it, SFxT is a hybrid of a lot of games, feels looser than SSF4 but not to the point of Marvel 3. We like it, and I can say it has pretty much engulfed the fighting game community at present.

If you are local and looking to school more or meet the fighting game community in Portland, feel free to stop by Best Bout Gaming. Tuesdays and Fridays are fighting game nights, and we have a nice mix of new players all the way up to the top players in Oregon.
