I liked it, too. Agreed about Captain America and Sam Jackson. Scarlett was better than expected and RDJ was fantastic.

A lot of it was good workplace comedy with a cleverly unusual workplace. Even if you don't like comic books or superhero movies, there is plenty to enjoy here.

HULK PUNCHING THINGS WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS MOVIE. HULK PUNCH THOR. HULK PUNCH LOKI. HULK PUNCH BUILDING. HULK PUNCH AIRSHIP. HULK PUNCH GIANT ARMORED EEL THING.

THE CHARACTER OF BLACK WIDOW WAS PRETTY AWESOME BECAUSE THEY MADE HER ACTUALLY INTELLIGENT. THE OPENING PART WITH, "I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERROGATION" NICELY DONE, SHOWS THAT SHE IS NOT A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS, SHE WILL WHOOP EVERYONE.

I WAS BORED BY TONY STARK. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME WE'VE SEEN THIS CHARACTER, AND NOTHING WAS ADDED. ALL OF HIS BEST LINES WERE IN THE TRAILERS ("WE'VE GOT A HULK" AND "GENIUS, BILLIONARE, PLAYBOY-PHILANTHROPIST"). AND! THEY FUCKING IMPLIED AT THE END THAT TONY STARK'S STUPID-AS-SHIT GOATEE THING WAS BECOMING A FASHION TREND. THAT'S AWFUL.

THE THANOS REVEAL WAS PRETTY AMAZING TO ME, BUT I'M A BIG FAN OF THE INFINITY GAUNTLET OUTER SPACE SHIT THAT MARVEL DOES. I HOPE THE NEXT MOVIE HAS EGO THE LIVING PLANET, THE WATCHER AND A GIANT PURPLE HEADED GALACTUS.

I actually thought RDJ was a little yawn in this one -- I enjoyed all of Thor , Cap and Hulk's jokes more than RDJ's (and it did feel like RDJ, not Tony Stark) little quips. I also just watched "Captain America: The First Avenger", and Chris Evans made me like him more with his limited time in Avengers than in an entire movie about his character.

Ruffalo did a surprisingly great job with Banner/Hulk -- it's amazing that they had to go through three objectively good actors and three movies to get that characterization right -- although I think the contrast with all the Handsome McMuscles other Avengers certainly helped things.

I am bummed about Coulson, but it's not a Joss Whedon production if he doesn't make you cry a little bit.

I think Thanos will suck because that will inevitably mean more space and more CGI and RAAAARRRGGGG. I like what Joss has been saying about making Avengers 2 smaller -- more painful and more personal -- and Thanos doesn't particularly seem to point in that direction from what I can tell -- although, spoiler alert, I thought he was a weird-looking Red Skull when I first saw him, so I'm clearly the worst.

The Hulk is surprisingly articulate in that panel from Avengers #1.

@MELOGNA: YOU GOT IT WRONG. THANOS WON'T BE THE VILLAIN OF AVENGERS 2, HE'LL BE THE VILLAIN OF THOR 2. I'LL BET TEN DOLLARS THAT THE PLOT LINE OF AVENGERS 2 WILL BARE A LOT OF SIMILARITIES TO THE CIVIL WAR PLOTLINE. OR IT'LL BE THE COUNCIL VERSUS FURY, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THE THREAT WILL BE FROM WITHIN, NOT OUTSIDE.

I haven't seen it apart from a terrible cam I downloaded and deleted over the weekend. I just wanna rep for Eric Bana's Hulk. That was a weird, wonderful movie and a helluva lot less boring than Ed Norton's go at it.
7
I'm holding out for Ant Man.

"We'll fight together, or separately, if need be!" Ah, god, Silver Age Marvel, it's hilarious, I love it. (Helps that I grew up with it...no, I'm not quite that old, my uncle had bought the comics years before.)
9
Because we all have needs that should be attended to, separately.

I want Mark Ruffalo to go back in time and be the Hulk in the other Hulk movies.

My favorite thing about the movie was that it embraced the fantastic absurdity of its subject matter. As much as I like Nolan's "realistic" take on Batman, this was a comic book movie that actually felt, you know, comic book-y. Seeing Thor go all Power of Greyskull on the top of the Chrysler Building is exactly the kind of over-the-top ridiculousness would warrant a two-page splash illustration. I'm also just amazed that it didn't suck. I was kind of bracing for a disaster, given all the buildup to this movie. It's almost unbelievable that it wasn't terrible.

I'm all for the ridiculous outer space stuff. There have already been plenty superhero movies with mutants and criminals and evil scientists. I'd like to see them go whole hog with the planet-smashing, galaxy-spanning absurdity of it all. If Thanos is the villain of any of the upcoming movies, I'm psyched.

Re: the death of Coulson, I felt like this was another example of Joss Whedon-lite. If he's gonna kill someone off, pick someone I'll give a poop about... like Pepper Potts. YESSSSSSS. Murder Gwyneth Paltrow, please.

I would say something mean, but I am guessing all of you dorks were bullied as children, and that is wrong. Also, I liked comics when I was a kid, they were a good escape. As an adult...yeah, I will watch the movie, but not nerd out about debating themes et al
13
You know Humphrey, I still can't tell if you are a creepy sexually confused serial killer or a creepy dork in general. Eh.
14
If it doesnt have The Human Dog or The Purple Pumpkin, then it aint The Avengers

One thing I have figured out about you is that you are in fact, an asshole.
16
Reflectakron? Trampoline? Colonel Brownhole? I didnt see ANY of these guys in the Avengers movie.
17
And isn't Edward "I'll sit this one out" Norton kicking himself for NOT playing banner...remember that debacle? That guy really blew it, as if the movie should have been called "Bruce Banner and the Avengers..."
18
Norton is playing Potpourri in the next X-Men movie

I was wondering if anyone noticed that Tony stark's mom and Captain America's love interest is named Margaret. In Iron man 2 when Tony is watching the video of his father... His father calls for her to come get the younger Tony and we all know Howard Stark made an appearance in the Captain America Movie. I was half expecting a tense moment between Tony and the Captain in the Avengers movie when I made the connection

Please wait...
