That's not old news...it hits newsstands in RS tomorrow.
But awesome for Tom and even more awesome that her wife is so supportive and will stand by her through the process. AM! rocks something fucking twisted.
1) The Oregon Community Foundation announced that it received a $150 million bequest yesterday to fund arts and education in Oregon. http://www.oregoncf.org/resources/news-pub…
Rrrr. It is NOT legal to view child pornography in New York.
What isn't legal is convicting someone of "possessing" child pornography BASED SOLEY on what is in their browser's automatic cache. That's all that opinion stands for.
For most crimes, you have to know you're actually doing something wrong to be criminally responsible (otherwise, how can prison deter you and others from the same behavior in the future?). If the ONLY evidence you possessed child porn is the data from the browser cache, then the State of New York hasn't sufficiently proved such knowledge when a browser caches automatically.
"Flying into a volcano" sounds much more exciting than the reality of "crashing into the side of a volcano". Also, I did not know that many Indonesians go by just one name. Is Cher Indonesian?
Chuck is right. And WTF, Mercury? Seems like you've been writing glowing Adams hagiographies lately. I know that Amy already proved that if you kiss a lot of mayoral ass, you can score a staff position. But since he's leaving, I don't see your point. He's not a great mayor, he's a "meh" mayor: obsessed with building things we don't need that he can put his name on while serving his own interests above the public's.
Oh wait...not even a "meh" mayor would lie to avoid losing an election. Almost forgot about that. Guess that makes him less than a meh mayor.
@7, I guess they're not technically wrong. It IS legal to VIEW child pornography in NY, because the law was written for pre-internet days. The law made it illegal to knowingly possess (the old mode of pervin'), not to knowingly view (new school pervin').
This court just refused to expand the definition to change with the times, so the court did what it is supposed to do; it's the legislature's job to update the laws, and you can bet that in about 20 minutes, NY's legislature will unanimously pass a law criminalizing viewing.
Blabby, it's important because it brings a new, prominent (in some circles, not yours obviously) voice to trans advocacy. It's an intensely personal, difficult decision and process, and the fact that s/he will be transitioning in public (as a working musician) is of great support to the trans community (which is sometimes ostracized within the greater LGB community).
But yeah, it's not as important as The Avengers or the Portland mayoral race or whatever is on your plate.
@6, very good point. Personally I don't believe anyone could "unknowing" possess Child Pornography. Because I assume that if you are a sick fucked up predator, you would know it, but I don't think you should convict someone based solely on their browser cache
Andre 3000, Tom Gabel, Jon Hamm, I don't know who these people are, I'm too old and unhip to hang around here any more. Isn't there any news about Dick Powell, Ruby Keeler, Oscar Levant, ANYBODY?
But awesome for Tom and even more awesome that her wife is so supportive and will stand by her through the process. AM! rocks something fucking twisted.

2) A study by Rutgers University found that only 50% of people who graduated college between 2006 and 2011 have full-time jobs.

THAT'S ALL IT MEANS.
THE MORE YOU KNOW, PERVS.

You and I must define the word "important" differently.
But yeah, it's not as important as The Avengers or the Portland mayoral race or whatever is on your plate.
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT AN AGAISNT ME IS AND WHY I CARE ABOUT SOME RANDOM PERSON'S GENDER IDENTITY?
