How is $30 for a pocket square, $85 for a tie "super reasonable"?
2
@CHUCK: BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT ACTUALLY.
3
It's very reasonable for US made items. Especially if they are using quality fabrics.
4
Very reasonable if you are a 30-something and mummy and daddy still foot the bills.
5
Yeah, $85 for a tie is effing ridiculous, no matter WHERE it's made!
6
And goddamned fucking UGLY ties, at that! What a shame that they're made here in Portland.

I bought some $100+ ties off the back of a truck in China about ten years ago, for about $5 each. It was just a whim at the time - I thought they were just cheap ties, and had no idea ties could even get that expensive.

But now it's ten years later and I've gone through a bunch of ties since then - those things look better than any of the $25-$45 ties I've bought, and they still look brand new. It's crazy, they're indestructible.

So yeah - I'd totally consider an $85 tie reasonable, if it's built like the high-end stuff apparently is...

Upon consideration, I would gladly pay $85 if I could have a brand new, exact replica of my favorite vintage tie (which is in sad shape after several years).

This is why I spend money on quality goods. Shoes explain it best.

$25 shoes from Target worn 3x a week for 2 months. They fell apart at 2 months. They stopped looking good at 1 month but I kept wearing them because I just bought them a month ago dammit! Average $1 a wear.

$250 shoes from John Fluevog worn for the last 10 years. Even at 2x a week they average $.24 a wear. These shoes still look good & I’m sure I will have them for another few years.

Pocket squares ain't shoes.

I here ya on the shoes. I have a pair of custom-sized NewRocks that set me back $300 (hand-made in Spain). Danner work boots typically cost $250-$400. But these are shoes you can expect will last (and look good) for a long time.

But a tie on the other hand - how much wear 'n tear does a TIE go through?

Please wait...
