one solution: make areas east of 82nd more walkable/desirable, duh. I live around ne glisan and 79th. it is walkable (5 blocks from a supermarket, a laundromat right there, and a few dining options) yet there are many things could can still be done to make it even better. it definitely is in need of some gentrification;) investment of new business that will liven it up and repel away the seediness of 82nd. but all in all I'm not complaining

the reason most new cheap housing is east of 82nd is because a majority of the inner east neighborhoods are well maintained due to people having more money, and property values are higher. kind of a catch 22. the further east of 82nd you go generally the more crappy it gets, with a few clusters of exceptions. remember location, location, location

the problem with "equity" is not everyone has the same ambition to climb higher on the economic ladder. sorry, but that will obviously limit where you'll be able to afford to live. too many people think they're entitled to this, that, and the other. work hard, save, invest in yourself and don't pull the discrimination card out just because you want to live closer to that hipster joint on Lincoln (joke).

This isn't news to anyone. My fiance and I lived over on 13th and Clinton seven years ago, and at that time the rents were skyrocking. My asshole landlord decided to up the rent $100, after seeing the neighborhood become hipster central. We are in Lent's now, and I think there are still enough criminals and meth dealers to keep the rent's down, but it's going to go the same way in a couple of years. Next bet is Carver!!

My God this is shocking news.....................NOT. I wonder how much this has to do with half the fucking country moving here and driving prices up, because it was " so cheap here" compared to hipsterville NY or shitbag NC .

Please wait...
