Reasons why I hadn't seen Alien: I don't like scary movies. I don't like most science fiction movies. I assumed it would probably be dumb, like most scary science fiction movies.

Anyway, I was wrong.

Showstopper, I can't believe you honestly recommended Phase IV to someone! For one, it means you have discerning taste. Two, the movie does many interesting things but is unfortunately not that great.

But! It is the only movie directed by noted film graphic designer Saul Bass -- that is important! The synthesizer score is very cool and ominous in a way that you don't hear in contemporary movies (except maybe say, Cliff Martinez with Solaris and Drive). It is hallucinatory and boring but remains a film of interest to me. I have FEELINGS about this Phase IV.
