wow. figured this was coming. interesting to see where Paulson goes. I think Spencer had the team playing well, but fitness seems to be their bugaboo. that, and the fact that our defenders can't seem to keep anyone marked. may also be a fitness issue, though.

We all saw this coming, but Gavin Wilkinson as interim coach means the rest of this season is shot. I kind of wish they would have kept Spencer through the end of the season for at least the sake of stability. Firing him now and having GW cover is just destructive.

Probably a good move. Timbers have been struggling is second half play all year. They're a totally different team each time after the half. I'm not a big sports person, but I assume whatever Spencer is doing in the locker room is not helping. Plus a number of questionable tactical decisions (I mean, really WTF with the line-up and subs on Saturday).

But I'd like to have had him finish the season.

Agreed, D and W. Let him play out the season. They've been so dreadful at times yet it's not unlikely for lowly teams to improve over the later half of a season. And MLS is not premiere by any stretch, add to that tons of parity and...well, I was going to say anything can happen but I think the Timbers are exactly what we've seen-a bottom three team with the potential to beat good teams at home.

I do think Spencer sealed his fate by continually asserting he had the talent to win, which he clearly does not.

Why play out the season with Spencer if you're going to fire him?

Why not give the interim coach a chance at the full time job by making the rest of the year a tryout?

Colin,

Because GW is no permanent replacement. People are as frustrated with him as they are Spencer. They'll have someone new next year, guaranteed.

they need a new captain too. I mean, c'mon Jack (paraphrased halftime quote of last loss): "We'd be happy to get a point" [tie 0-0]

these are the words of capitulation and no strategy can justify them in the midst of a losing season. you know your team will lose when this is your captain's philosophy. nothing, no hope, no fire, nothing.

Please wait...
