I liked this profile of him from about a week ago (good timing): http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/08…

And, especially, how it's clear that what he preaches while in DC clearly clashes with the needs of his district. And he recognizes that but gets around confronting it by using some smooth cognitive dissonance.

He's probably going to slice Biden to ribbons during the debate, but other than that the GOP is losing more than they're gaining with this choice.

So the economist joins the greed-ridden elitist to try and buy their way to the White House- What a team! Ryan will need to get fitted for his Magic Mormon Underwear soon! These sacred undergarments harness the power of the Almighty to cough up enough cash for their crusade to the highest seats in the land. See for yourself how these miracles are performed and how money plays its role in politics at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/05…

In content he might be able to take Biden on policy questions. This said, I'm not sure how many people will like, "Smarmy prep-school Randian hypocrite that has only worked for the government" beating up on, "kind hearted doddering doofus that rides public transportation."

I suppose it might add a wedge to things in Wisconsin, but I really don't think this is the safe choice for Romney. Unless he's simply worried about the Democrats portraying him as a liberal, which the DNC is apparently too stupid to really commit to yet in their quest to make Romney a viable alternative to Obama with a fresh new direction.
