Two things.

1. Please make the CLEAR distinction between "immigrant" and "illegal immigrant". What conservatives want is fairness for Americans. Illegal immigrants are not American. We are certainly a nation of immigrants, not illegal immigrants. To suggest otherwise implies that conservatives are somehow racist. Many more Americans became citizens through the proper channels over the last few centuries than those who came here illegally.

2. This idea that illegal immigrants should receive any special consideration not afforded to American citizens is outrageous. For example, a student from Nebraska that wants to attend U of O would have to pay out-of-state tuition. They, too, would improve Oregon, would they not?

Why the double standard? One class of students come from another country. The other class of students come from another state in the U.S.A. It isn't fair for the U.S. citizen that had the misfortune of being born in Nebraska when they want to attend higher education in Oregon.

Sigh, I don't know why I'm bothering, but it's not a double standard. Why? Because a Nebraska student is not an Oregon resident. As proposed (here and elsewhere), the undocumented student (brought to this country under no knowledge or will of their own but at the behest of their parents) must attend at least three years and graduate from an Oregon high school. This means that we (you and me) are subsidizing their education up to a point, but then pricing them out of being able to continue their education into college and beyond.

If a Nebraska student wants to move here and finish high school in Oregon, that student will be wholeheartedly offered in-state tuition.

Sigh...D&W. You still didn't address the underlying problem. Preferential treatment for citizens from a different country over U.S. citizens. It is an overwhelming majority of Americans who pay taxes to fund our schools, not illegal immigrants. How many illegal immigrants actually PAY taxes? They CAN through the I.R.S. but no one knows for sure. They lead clandestine lives and are more often than not involved with some sort of I.D. theft to receive American services. How many Americans from Nebraska and Oregon pay taxes? With few exceptions, ALL of them. The rest who don't pay taxes get fined and put in prison. We shouldn't be educating kids from another country unless they pay their fair share. Truth is, their families don't.

I'm not saying illegal immigrants are all bad. But considering how many Hispanic gang members, drug runners and felons that are here illegally, we have to go back to simple ideas. Like upholding U.S. Immigration Laws, for starters. Obama is pandering to Hispanics by usurping Congress and their ruling regarding the Dream Act and now Homeland Security is being sued by 10 ICE agents for it. These agents swore to uphold Immigration Laws and now are being tied up with political garbage from properly doing their job and protecting America. There is a reason why we have laws. There is a reason why our President is sworn in to uphold the laws of America, not picking and choosing which ones he will enforce to please a voting demographic. It's time to stop the abuse of power and start enforcing our Federal laws.

This is common knowledge. Ignore the facts all you want. People deserve to know the entire truth. It isn't fair for American citizens to pay a higher rate than illegal immigrants for ANYTHING. Especially higher education.
