These places are pretty much the polar opposite of Planned Parenthood, this is not an accident, but by design.

I visited the location in Beaverton with my girlfriend about 18 months ago. They handed us 3 z-fold flyers on prayer & God, and had pointless questionnaires about if we planned to terminate the pregnancy. The purpose of these places is to intercept young girls before they enter a Planned Parenthood, so they may coach girls not to terminate their pregnancy. It’s not their job to talk about birth control, women’s health, or so many of the other options provided by Planned Parenthood, the Crisis Center exclusively offered a pregnancy test. Unfortunately for Planned Parenthood, these Crisis Centers have much more advanced marketing abilities, including facebook advertising and advanced SEO. These are services that Planned Parenthood simply can’t afford.

When we showed up to Planned Parenthood, they actually provided coaching to my girlfriend and myself about the pregnancy cycle, offered multiple referrals to natural birthing groups, and they never mention terminating the pregnancy. In the end, my girlfriend had a miscarriage, and thankfully to Planned Parenthood, we knew to go straight to the emergency room when she started bleeding.

In Spring, my 14 year old sister who lives in Virginia contacted me because she was considering sexual activity. Her mother is a fundamentalist Christian, so my sister literally thought she could get pregnant by simply touching a penis. I spoke with her on the phone, and talked with her about going to Planned Parenthood to speak with a doctor. Instead, she accidently ended up at a Christian Crisis Center who tricked her into giving up what church she goes to. They then called the church to get her Mom’s phone number, and told her mother that she was pregnant (she was still a virgin). You can imagine how the rest of the story goes, when I saw my sister in August she was still destroyed by the whole ordeal, and now her mom doesn’t trust me because she thinks I was encouraging her to have sex. Thanks, Crisis Center.

Fidelity_axiom: As a staff member at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, I am very sorry that your family had to endure such irresponsible behavior. We are working hard to show the Legislature that Oregonians want them to improve accuracy, transparency and privacy requirements of these fake clinics. We are collecting stories just like yours to help us make the case - please email me at jimmy.radosta@ppcw.org if you'd like to share your experience.
