What's wrong with The Monster Squad?

I am glad to hear this, especially after my coworkers (whose pop culture judgments included: Avengers was horrible, Dark Knight Rises was flawless, Thor was the greatest comic book movie of all time) complained about how bad it was.

@ iceprez:

Yeah, i have good memories of that one, too. (I just looked to see if the library has it -- nope.....and Netflix doesn't stream it.)

But, were i to see it again now, it would surely be absolutely horrible. I've come to realize quite well these past several years that the 10-year-old me wasn't always a good judge of films.

'Last Action Hero' is horrible, too, for the same reason -- it's simply a movie for kids. However, the overall idea of it (the melding of fact and fiction, and the fictional characters' ignorance of the fact that they're indeed fictional) is pretty damn great.

Lastly, Shane Black gave one of the best performances of any actor in 'Predator' (also a great movie by a 10-year-old's standards).

HIT- I did watch the Monster Squad again recently and it was awesome. Real make-up effects, OG Universal Studios monsters, plus great performances from Jon Gries, Tom Noonan, and Wayne from The Wonder Years. On the downside ( and this is true with a lot of 80's teen movies), the word Fag is used liberally.

Erik, is IM3 better than the second?
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was great, yep.

Please wait...
