Of course, almost everything's profoundly odd or pretty weird to someone who has to produce a certain number of blog posts every week.

They've been doing the same job their whole lives, a rare job where they make a lot of money, and when they do it people stand up and shout approval at them. Do you expect them to quit doing that willingly and enroll in community college because some people who never got to live that dream think they're square?

(I hate their music, by the way.)

It's awkward, innit, to realise once and for all that the culture one consumed as an adolescent was also mass-consumed. Especially because at the time one felt awfully individual, romantic, as though alienation were a new experience.

Got on the tube last month after the Rolling Stones gig in Hyde Park. Loads of drunk people got on all singing "oooo oooo", the backing to Sympathy For The Devil. They'd all paid at least £100 for the ticket, and had, for their money, gotten what sounded like a great show. On the other hand, they looked just wrecked. I was half envious, half contemptuous. Kept thinking, "I wish I was Mick Jagger." But not one of these people paying to watch him. I feel like that most days, actually.

I love Green Day boy's voice. I'd love to be him. But I can't help thinking he must marvel that people are willing to rock up and watch his stuff on Broadway.

Green Day sucks in their forties because they sucked in their twenties! It was a band that was marketed to children. Now these children have grown up and they think it was a real band. How cute.

I wasn't into Green Day back in the Dookie days. I was really into punk, but they felt a little too watered down and snotty for my tastes. That said, I've heard every one of their albums since then (my dad is a big fan), and I don't think they're milking anything. They still produce consistently solid music, and there are a variety of sounds and influences on their albums. And it seems that they put a lot of energy and creativity into each release. They're also really good sound engineers. The recordings sound good. From listening to their albums over the years, I've become more of a fan.

Erik, this almost sounds like you're saying, "I haven't listened to their recent stuff, but I AM a lazy critic who knows how to dig up some bland commentary: they are old and still have the same job, so it must be bad!"

Dammit Soggy, you are NOT supposed to reveal this!

Um. I really REALLY enjoyed watching them last night.

As 'someone who has words burned bla blah bla'...

You are a strange 'fan' indeed. Here's an idea, you don't like it TURN IT OFF.

But I really enjoyed watching them.. certainly more than hearing you whine ....

But I guess you are the one with talent around here?

No no band should ever perform a song more than once. that would be wierd. fuck you nerdo.

You never liked them. admit it. You are only saying that to avoid having tomatos thrown at you.

I can see through your mask. you suck. leave rock and roll to the people who enjoy IT. NO NERDS ALLOWED!

Please wait...
