Anyone care to guess how many shootings and shots-fired calls there were in North Precinct during the month of August 1994? At the time North Precinct encompassed the area roughly where North Precinct is now, but only out to 33rd Avenue. Any guesses?

I remember. lots of dead teenagers, people seriously injured, houses and cars getting shot up, running gun battles, retaliation shootings. The outrage didn't radiate too far and you rarely heard shit on the news.

The answer, for all of you too insecure to committ to taking a guess, is 450. That's an average of almost 15 everyday. And it was fairly typical for the time. It was not unusual for officers to find scenes where there were 50 to 100 empty shell casings, and there had been no call for service. Compared to that, 75 so far this year doesn't seem so bad, does it?
